π¦ Cubicle Creatures: One Video, Two Interactive Builds
Meet Sir Reginald Cubicle. For forty years, he has studied one of nature's most mysterious creatures... the office worker. π§
For this week's challenge, I made one AI Avatar video and turned it into two interactive experiences in Rise 360.
The goal: see what each approach does best.
The story π¬
Sir Reginal narrates a new hire's first week in the "open plan savanna."
Learners help the creature survive three encounters: the shared microwave (leftover salmon π), the nine a.m. meeting, and the dreaded reply all email.
At each moment, Sir Reginal asks, "What will it do?" and the video pauses for the learner to decide.
Build 01: Rise Interactive Video β‘
You'd think this would be the quick one. Not quite.
First, the interactive video format lives in it's own separate course, so it can't sit inside the microlearning I created my code block in. That's why there are two links below. π
Second, the Interactive Video tool "decides" where the checkpoints should go and what kind of checkpoint, and the timing was way off (it would be nice to let the user decide these things).
Regarding the timing Sir Reginal was giving away the answers before learners ever saw the questions! π
The good news is you can go in and edit the checkpoints and choose after the fact.
The bad news it is time consuming.
Build 02: Rise Code Block π οΈ
Surprise (not) this was the fastest build! π₯
- Field journal style question cards
- Feedback in Sir Reginald's voice for every answer ("Oh dear. The herd scatters. Somewhere, a coworker quietly opens a window.")
- Checkpoint dots on the progress bar that turn green or red
- No skipping ahead past a question
- A closed captions toggle
- A Survival Report at the end, ranking you from "Microwave Menace" to "Apex Professional" π
A Tip for AI Avatar Users π‘
Want dramatic pauses? Put them in brackets in your script, like [pause for 1 second].
It worked perfectly and gave Sir Reginal his documentary timing. I also added a 2 second pause after each question, which gave me a clean spot to stop the video in both builds.
Which would I use? π€
The code block when I want the personality to carry through every click.
Rise Interactive Video when I need something teammates can easily update without touching code.

SMcNicolβ I can't stop laughing. π Such a clever script. Thanks for sharing your builds.
"Until next time, mind the microwave."
The Rise Code Block build felt more contained, and (maybe) it was a better overall learner experience for me.
