In Public Beta: Skip-ahead Quizzes
Skip-ahead quizzes is still in development and will receive updates as part of Labs. Functionality will change over time. Some options will be modified and others may be removed based on feedback and feature stability.
Skip-ahead quizzes allow creators to deploy competency-based assessments for learners. Learners who pass these quizzes can jump to the section designated by the training author. It's a great way to speed up training and keep your learners engaged. Here's how they work.
How to Use/Access Skip-ahead Quizzes
After enabling Skip-ahead quizzes from the Labs page in account settings, open a course.
- Create a quiz lesson that's followed by at least one additional lesson or quiz.
- Open Quiz Settings.
- Toggle on Skip Ahead If Passed.
- Use the If Passed, Skip to drop-down menu to select the lesson or quiz learners advance to after successfully passing the quiz.
Note: Any skipped content is marked complete. Enabling Skip Ahead If Passed automatically enables Restrict Navigation.
Known Issues
- This feature will appear disabled in Quiz Settings if there's no other content after the quiz.
- If the Labs experiment is disabled after a skip-ahead quiz is created, the skip behavior may no longer work.
- Rise Course LMS publish settings only allow tracking based on a single quiz. See the FAQ for a recommended approach to pre- and post-quiz design solutions.
Skip-ahead Quizzes FAQ
How can I use this for a pre/post quiz course design?
Rise LMS Exports currently support tracking results from a single quiz. When a skip-ahead quiz is enabled, any skipped content is automatically marked as complete. To create a pre- and post-quiz design, configure the pre-quiz so that learners who pass it skip the post-quiz. Then set tracking to Track using quiz result and specify the post-quiz or Track using course completion.
What do my learners see?
If a learner passes the quiz and skips ahead, the button on the results page displays the name of the lesson they'll skip to. We're actively exploring alternative learner-facing messaging, so please share your ideas via the feedback survey.
Why am I not seeing this in my Quiz Settings?
Ensure the experiment is enabled in Labs and that there is at least one lesson or quiz after the intended skip-ahead quiz. If you still don’t see this feature, please comment below and our team will reach out.
Is this feature accessible?
This feature is currently undergoing testing to ensure it meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility requirements.

Just to confirm the set up - I want learners who pass the pre-test to skip content and for the course to wrap up based on them passing then clicking 'Exit Course' on the final screen, but for learners who fail the pre-quiz to move through the module and have to pass the final quiz for the course to wrap up, do I set the completion trigger to 'Quiz Result'?
Hi Julie, all content skipped following a pre-quiz will be marked as complete. If you track by quiz result, make sure they skip passed a post-quiz that is being tracked. Otherwise, simply track using Course completion and skip them to the end.

I couldn't be more excited to have this functionality in Rise! Do we know when a decision will be made about making this a permanent tool/feature? I am using it as a test-out option at the beginning of one of the modules we use frequently, and it is hitting the mark, so I'd love to keep it. I do need to ensure it will still be working in November though - when will we know?
Hey Julie! This feature is now in Public Beta so I'm happy to say it won't be going anywhere. Though we do have a few enhancements we'll be making based upon the community's feedback during this beta period.
It will be absolutely still be working in November 👍- JulieMahonyCommunity Member
Fantastic! Thanks so much for letting me know :)

Hello team! I have also left this feedback on the feedback form, but was unable to provide a screenshot... so here's an additional post 😊
I've noticed that if you have a mid-course quiz that's bypassed, each question on that skipped quiz will be marked "Incorrect." Obviously, this isn't accurate since the learner has bypassed the assessment. I think the feedback here should instead say something to the effect of "Skipped" or "Ungraded." Thoughts? Here's an example of a skipped quiz:Thanks JenLynnRusso! We'll look into this. Really appreciate you letting us know.

Hi, I've set up a pre-quiz and set the attempts to none. If failed, I'd expect someone to have to complete the full content before then attempting the post-quiz at the end. However, upon testing, the user becomes 'stuck' after 1 failed attempt at the pre-quiz. See attached.
Also, if they failed, they can click back onto the page before and select the pre-assessment pathway again - which basically gives them unlimited attempts.Hi OliverDeakin-41,
Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you have limited retries and Require Passing Score To Continue enabled on your end.
- Could you please confirm your current quiz settings?
- Is this happening with any other projects you're working on or just this one?
Based on your screenshot, I recommend disabling the Require Passing Score To Continue feature within your Scoring Quiz Settings.
If you're still experiencing this or running into something different, we'd be happy to take a closer look at a copy of your course within a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi LucianaPiazza Thanks for getting back to me.
You're suggestion of unticking "Require Passing Score to Continue" has resolved the issue of someone who failed the quiz from not being able to complete the full module - thank you.
Thank you for your help.
I also figured out that even though someone could go back and select the pre-quiz option, they cannot take it again as it takes them back to the 'fail' screen.

I love the skip ahead feature! It's great for annual training requirements where the majority of our staff have a good understanding of the content already. Is there a way to build a Rise so that the learner has the option to either do the skip ahead quiz or go through each lesson? From my understanding of it, each learner HAS to do the skip ahead quiz if it is added into the lesson, is that correct? I would love for the learner to have the option.
Hello ErinJones5280,
Thanks for sharing your insight with us! While what you're looking for currently isn't possible with Skip-ahead Quizzes, I've shared your voice with our product team as this would be helpful to your workflow. We'll share future updates so all are in the loop!

Does anyone have any input as far as best practices for publishing to the LMS and tracking data? We typically use 2004/3rd Edition.
We're getting interesting info:
Skip Ahead Enabled
Tracking (90% completion)
Complete/Incomplete
Everything acts as it should, but you do not get a completion score. Passing the quiz and failing the quiz, then completing course - both render a 0%.
Could still see question analysis though.
Same results when set to Passed/Incomplete
If you track using quiz results. If you pass and skip ahead, it is tracked. if you fail and complete course - you get the failing grade. - swestCommunity Member
Can't seem to access the feature. Have a lesson after the quiz and still not working. Any help would be much appreciated :)
Hello swest,
Thanks for reaching out!
In order to access any experimental features, you'll need to toggle the specific Labs Experiment on in your Account Dashboard.
- Go to manage.articulate.com after logging in to your Articulate 360 subscription.
- Click Labs on the left-hand side of the window to access our active Labs
experiments.
- Scroll on down to Skip-ahead Quizzes and toggle this feature on.
Here's a quick visual of this in action!
Please let us know if you're still having trouble accessing this Labs experiment. We're happy to help!
Hi everyone! Our Labs experiment keeps evolving. We've gotten lots of requests to let learners choose how to proceed after successfully passing a quiz. So now, learners are presented with a button to skip ahead or they can navigate to the next lesson as usual. What do you think of this new option? We’d love to get your feedback via the survey.

Hello!
This will be for Storyline 360, correct?
Any idea on when it will be released as a feature instead of just a lab? My boss is itching for this to be officially released as we don't want to build for our customers using a beta. Thanks!
Hello lorraineS! I want to confirm that this feature is for Rise 360. We'll be sure to share any updates on the status of this feature within this thread, so all are aware.
Feel free to share your feedback via our survey once you've experimented!
