Course Notes: Two AI-Powered Approaches

I’ve created two versions of an interactive "Course Notes" app. Both are designed to be added as a custom block in Rise 360, helping learners capture and organize their reflections without leaving the course.

Version 1: The Structured Journal (Built with ChatGPT)

This version focuses on organization and categorization. It’s perfect for structured courses where notes need to be tied to specific chapters.

  • Categorized Entries: Learners use a simple form to title their notes and assign them to specific sections (e.g., Introduction, Chapters 1-3, Review).
  • Dynamic Note Cards: Saved entries appear as cards with timestamps and individual "Copy" or "Delete" actions.
  • Filtering & Exporting: Includes a section filter and a "Copy All Notes" modal for easy exporting to external documents.
  • User Feedback: Features toast notifications for real-time confirmation (e.g., "Note added!").

Version 2: The Flexible Notebook (Built with Claude)

This version is more streamlined and user-driven, prioritizing flexibility and customization.

  • Fully Customizable Sections: Learners can rename existing topics or add entirely new sections on the fly to tailor the journal to their needs.
  • Live Word Counts: Provides immediate feedback as learners reflect and write.
  • Integrated Copy Tool: A dedicated feature to quickly grab all content for external use.

The Technical Details

Both designs share a modern aesthetic and are built for seamless integration:

  • No Backend Needed: These tools run entirely in the browser using local storage, meaning learners' notes persist between sessions without requiring a database.
  • Rise 360 Integration: I described the functional requirements to the AI assistants, and they generated self-contained HTML files that I dropped directly into a Rise 360 </> Code block.

I think both designs work well depending on the learning goal. I'd love to hear which approach you think would be more useful for your learners!
