An audio on/mute button controlled by JavaScript
- 9 months ago
I thought the idea was amazing. Yeah, that is a good question, but my guess is that two years ago, we did not have all of the updates for triggers, and things did not always play the way we wanted them to back in the day. lol, I just really liked it and have been learning Java lately, so your design was very interesting to me. :) thanks for the response.

I do have a question: for what publishing purpose did you create this? It is pretty remarkable, by the way. Why would you not use trigger options within the Storyline file, create a button that looks like yours, and then use triggers to toggle on and off? That is what I generally do.
Hi Jennie,
Thank you for getting me to rethink why I went to all this trouble making an audio toggle when the Storyline player can be configured to show a little speaker toggle in the frame.
I can't come up with my reasoning, except that the player toggle is hard to access quickly when the slide is playing when using a screen reader. But why wouldn't the sight-challenged person just use Control-Alt-M instead? Was this key combo not available 3 years ago? I think it was.
There might have been some other reason why I started including a JavaScript-based onscreen button 3 years ago. But I can't find one in my notes. I did enjoy using JavaScript in Storyline for the first time.
I also can't take credit for this amazing set of triggers or the JavaScript code either - most of that came from an Articulate forum or eLearning Heroes (which of course I can't find).
Feeling a little sheepish.
