Thanks Steve. This is a Frakenstein's monster of CC0 game assets, that I cobbled together into this game. It's amazing what you can find if you shop around!

You can also download a copy of the master file from this page, to see how it works. The layering and animation triggers use the same approach as the Indemnity Jones example.
TL;DR it's state changes and motion paths and the 'idle' and 'run' character states are repeating GIFs.
