Idea for E-Learning Challange = Fail On Purpose
Has this been done? I read a quote where someone said to grow you should embrace failure as part of the process. What if the challenge was to create something that caused the user to fail no matter...

I have not done an exercise where the goal was to lose, but I have done some where winning was not the goal.
- I created a complex scene of a real time scenario in action and illustrated how their actions were affecting related statistics. As a means of getting their attention, I introduced the scene by asking them to see if they could guess what the target goal was. Afterwards, I did a quick quiz where they got to enter their guess. If they got it right, we congratulated them. If they got it wrong, we thanked them for trying. And if they refused to guess, we reassured them that we would be transparent about their goals and not leave them guessing. In all cases it continued down the same learning path.
- After teaching a series of steps needed to start each work shift, I brought them to a drag and drop racing game. They were given the 6 steps and a time limit to get them in the right order. After the race, which most people would fail, was a quick reminder of the importance of giving yourself enough time to complete these tasks so they could be ready to start on time.

Those are good ones! Back in the day, I made a test for potential student workers that was very technical and maybe only 1 or 2 ever passed it. But that was the point. They were all grad students in Engineering, so they were used to being smart. I wanted to see how they'd act if they didn't know all the answers.
