Library list view: allow resizable columns
What happens
In the new Library, when I open a specific folder and switch to list view, the Title column is extremely narrow and fixed. Course titles are cut off after only a handful of characters, and there is no way to drag the column border, resize any column, hide columns I don't need, or reorder them. The remaining width is given to Owner, Content Type, Content State, and File Location — all of which show identical or near-identical values for every row inside a single folder.
I've attached a screenshot of one of our folders. Every row reads "Copy of ...", "①業務...", "②相互..." and so on, so the list is effectively unusable for identifying a course.
Why this is a problem
- The Title is the only column that actually differentiates one item from another, yet it gets the least space. The columns that do get space repeat the same value down the entire folder.
- This hits hardest when several items share a prefix — duplicated drafts ("Copy of ..."), version-numbered courses ("(V1.0) ...", "(V2.0) ..."), or numbered module series. The part that distinguishes them is always the part that gets cut.
- It is significantly worse for non-Latin languages. Our titles are in Japanese, and CJK characters are roughly double-width, so only about five characters survive truncation. Teams authoring in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean see almost nothing of their titles.
- The only workaround is card view, which drops the metadata columns entirely and shows far fewer items per screen — so we lose the reason we wanted list view in the first place.
What we'd like
In order of preference:
- Draggable column widths, with the setting remembered per user across sessions.
- If that isn't feasible, give Title a much larger default share of the available width, and allow the title to wrap onto two lines instead of truncating on one.
- Let users show/hide and reorder columns, so we can reclaim space from columns that are constant within a folder.
- At minimum, show the full title in a tooltip on hover and make the truncated title fully readable somewhere without opening the item.
Even item 4 alone would make list view workable again, but item 1 is what we'd really like to see.
