New to ITD — What Do You Wish You Knew?
Hi, I’m Tammy from North Alabama. I’m currently in a master’s program in Instructional Technology and Design @ UNA. Coming from a business and operations background.
I’m new to the ITD field, so I’m here to learn from people who are already working in it. I’d especially like to know: What are two things you wish you had known when you first started your ITD career? Any information is appreciated.

Hi Tammy! Welcome to the wonderful world of ITD. I can share my experience that is continuously evolving decades later. 1.Having conversations with SME's and stakeholders can evolve and change even within a single project. Try to work on professional communication skills, effective communication skills and read/research as many tools as possible for SME interactions. There are some helpful resources within this community about working with SME's Working with Subject Matter Experts | E-Learning Heroes and I would recommend looking into the Peer Pod Articulate offers Group: Peer Pod: New to Instructional Design | E-Learning Heroes . 2.Don't take things personally was another skill that has proven useful in this field. Even if the build took you a lot of time or work and they may scrap the whole thing and go another way or you build something and it is shelved for a year. Don't take it personally, be prepared for changes, pivots and adjustments even if it wasn't communicated. It's a wonderful industry and truly informative with communities like this one.
