Using the Design Maps for Visual Analysis

One of the challenges designers often face is coming up with the right visual theme for a course. The secret is not to think about the course design as much as it is identifying the common elements found in a particular topic or industry.

There are a lot of different approaches to mapping out a topic's design elements, but I've always found the non-linear format of mind maps to fit my design style best.

Common e-learning course elements:

  • elements
  • type, fonts
  • people
  • colors

Sources of inspiration

  • media and pop culture
  • magazines
  • analogies, metaphors, antonyms
  • related industries
