Want to get navigation instructions out of the learner’s way, while still making them easily accessible throughout the course? Try adding them to the course player, like I did in this handy template.

Explore this template.

With Storyline 360, it’s super easy to do by adding a custom player tab that opens a slide in a pop-up window, called a lightbox. And by downloading this template, it’s even easier because all you have to do is customize it to fit your needs. Easy-peasy!

Want the instructions to appear automatically after a certain amount of time? Download the time-sensitive version of this template.

Think it'd be nice to give learners the choice to opt-in or out of navigation instructions. Click here to view another version of this template.

Need to add a custom contact tab to your course player? Grab this great template—which served as the starting point for the current template.

This template will work for folks using Storyline 360, the continuously updated version of Storyline included in Articulate 360. Want to try it out? Get a free trial of Articulate 360 right here.

  • I love this template! Some of the features in the Lightbox don't match up with my player features (I am using Modern Player). Any thoughts on how I can change the lightbox easily without upending the functionality?

      Hi Stephanie,
You can easily customize any of the elements on the lightboxed slide just like any other slide. :)
  • Thanks Allison - Sorry, I am not clear exactly how to use the lightbox .. How do I create the lightbox that reflects the player features?

I like the concept, but is this compatible with a screen reader? I tried using the NVDA reader and did not have success reading the various screen components.
  • I'm also curious about the screen reader capabilities.

And also: since SL is responsive and resizes to different devices and browsers, I'm wondering about the use of arrows in #1? On my screen, the arrow points straight up, whereas "Navigation Help" is further to the right so it looks like it isn't pointing to the right place. Any ideas to circumvent that?
  • Hi Allison,
Just wondering how you removed the little squares from the black background square to highlight each of the sections the learner is hovering.
