Very cool. A couple of hazards were very subtle and nicely done. The slider to show the steps for lifting was great.
Was the Storyline developer the same as the artist?
Hi Josh,
I'm a student using Storyline for the first time. Would you be willing to share a downloadable file so I can see how you made this great module? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your comments everyone!
Daniel Jovanov - The audience is mostly millennials so I did take a lot of inspiration from video games creating this.
Michael O/Chris Walden - The artwork was made in Vyond.
Sara Bakalian - I created this for a client so I can't share the storyline file since it belongs to them. Let me know if you have any specific questions about how something was created. I'm considering starting a blog about how this course and a few others were created. It's just finding the time!
Thanks Marie. The employees for the company I created this for don't have audio enabled on their computers so I couldn't add any music/sound effects/narration. It's a good idea though!
Hola Josh, muy inspirador este ejemplo!! gracias
Tengo una pregunta, storyline permite que el alumno pueda escoger un personaje y poner su nombre para personalizar algunas instrucciones?
Desde ya gracias
Hi Josh! Well done! I like how you can select a character at the beginning. Did you create a movie for both characters then use variables to display based on the user's selection?
Thanks Renee. Yeah, that's exactly what I did. Would have been nice to get a few more characters in there but I basically had to remake most of the graphics and videos for the second character so it wasn't worth the time. It would have really increased the file size too.
For my own clarity, did you create one character video in entirety in Vyond, export it, and then separate out the video within different slides in Storyline? I'm just trying to visualize the creation of it. Very awesome!
Glad you like it Sarah! We're trying to create a self-directed learning culture at our workplace and the first step in that is making our mandatory training fun and engaging. If the staff enjoy their mandatory training on dry subjects then hopefully it will encourage them to seek out further training in subjects that interest them.
Thanks Jenny. Hopefully this can inspire you! It's difficult to give an accurate timescale as I made this about a year ago and was working on other projects at the same time. If I was to work solely on this it would probably take about 3 weeks of development time.
Hello Josh, this example is very inspiring !! thanks I have a question. Storyline allows you to choose a character to interact and write a name, to customize some instructions? or both are made in Vyond? . Thanks in advance
Hi Lorena. The characters were created in Vyond but the interaction was made in Storyline. For the character select, clicking on a character at the start changes a variable, then that variable is checked on every slide which changes the state of the image/video to match the character chosen.
The name is similar. When a name is entered it sets the value of a variable to the entered text. Anytime the name is used it checks what the variable is and sets the text to match that.
Hi Josh, this is just WOW! great work and you've made compliance elearning fun!! One question, how did you show the correct graphic after you've identified the hazard, eg, the person holding 2 boxes, which is a wrong thing to do, to the correct way? thanks again for your wonderful work. Inspire me to do something similar for my next project.
Hi Josh, would you be willing to share your storyline file? I am working with a public health program in my university to move our face-to-face field-based course to online in a rush! I want to use your safety course as an example. Obviously, I'll give you credit :) - you can email me directly (elromero@uic.edu)
