About Paul Alders
I’m Paul Alders, a freelance e-learning developer and instructional designer based in the Netherlands, working with clients across the globe. I help organizations design and build digital learning experiences that are clear, creative, and grounded in real results — using tools like Articulate Storyline and Rise.
My journey into digital learning began back in 2009, when I was teaching in vocational education. That’s where I first discovered how powerful well-designed learning experiences could be — when they connect meaningfully with people’s daily lives. Since then, I’ve worked across industries from healthcare to education to international organizations, creating learning that doesn’t just inform, but engages and changes behavior.
I believe in starting with the real problem and designing simple, human, effective solutions. I’m proud to be recognized as an Articulate Super Hero, and I love sharing insights and supporting others in the E-Learning Heroes community.

About the Book — RATE: Learning That Lasts
I’m currently writing a book called RATE, a practical story about creating e-learning that truly makes an impact. The title stands for Retention, Activation, Transformation, and Extension — four stages that describe how people remember, act, adapt, and sustain what they learn.
RATE grew out of more than fifteen years of experience in the field and a question that has guided much of my work:
What makes e-learning truly meaningful?
Told through the story of Emma, an instructional designer seeking purpose in her work, RATE blends narrative with reflection to explore how learning can move beyond information delivery to become lasting change. It’s both a framework and a mindset — a compass for creating learning that endures.
