Instructor-led training (ILT) is much like it sounds—live instruction led by a facilitator or teacher. The term covers in-person training, with the instructor and learners all in the same location, and live virtual training, where everyone comes together in an online classroom or webinar platform.

Because schools typically use ILT, it’s often what people envision when they think of training. That’s why stakeholders and learners sometimes need additional support and examples to see how other training formats—like e-learning—can also be effective.
