Hello! I've always been fond of 'Start Late, Leave Early' - dropping learners into an unfamiliar scenario, testing their existing skills and knowledge, and only offering correction if they fail. So it's back to my favourite fictional workplace, Lucifer Industries, to test their evacuation procedures... This is a tongue-in-cheek way of illustrating how you can flip the script, ditch the learning objectives, and have the learner figure out what to do. I could have made this longer but ran out of time. Originally, I wanted the scenarios to be videos but Veo 3.1 (Google Gemini) did not do what I wanted even though I used promptcowboy.ai for help. For this week’s eLearning Heroes Challenge, I skipped the usual upfront learning objectives and started with a real-world scenario instead. The course opens during a gas turbine startup. Learners step into the role of the operator as things seem normal… until they’re not. A few warning signs appear, decisions are made under pressure, and then—boom—the scenario ends on a cliffhanger. By the time learners reach the formal topics and objectives, they already care. I first shared this entry for another challenge. I am reposting it here because the format fits this week’s theme of using interactive videos for scenarios and quizzes. This project illustrates how Push and Pull methods influence learner engagement in a fictional onboarding scenario. In the Push approach, learners view a simple slide that lists the company’s core values. It presents the content in a passive way. In the Pull approach, learners watch a short video scenario and respond to branching questions that require them to apply the core values. The choices shape the path, giving the experience a more active feel. This comparison illustrates how interactive videos enable learners to connect core values to real-life situations.
