1 Second Layer Delay
Mar 21, 2013
Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid the slight delay in viewing a layer? I'm working on a project that dynamically puts video clips together (plays them back-to-back) with each clip on a layer of its own. This slight delay causes audio and video to hiccup because it appears there is a pause occurring between the layers. I've set the slide transitions to very fast with no transition, tightened timelines, made sure there were no animations on any objects, etc but this slight delay persists.
PS - I could avoid this issue by placing on the videos on one layer then call the individual videos as needed, however, since I can't turn the display of videos on or off, they stack on top of each other preventing bottom videos from being seen. Layers solve that issue but present a new issue of a 1 second delay in playback between layers. Ugh.
PSS - I could also avoid this issue by assembling the video clips into several individual videos already stitched together, however, I have 7 clips that can be dragged and dropped in any order then played back. Doing the math on this...that's a lot of videos I'd have to stitch together manually just to get smooth playback. Ugh
Any help, ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, do you have a transition on the layer, I normally find that causea delay especially if you have a animation on the object as well
I see that this is an old posting but hoping someone will reply - I do have a layer with an animation on an object. Is there a work around for this delay?
Hey Carol!
Welcome to E-Learning Heroes- so happy you're here 😄
Since this is an older discussion, lets start fresh. Would you mind sharing your .story project file so I can do a little testing first-hand? You can add it right to a comment here in the discussion using the Add Attachment feature in the comment box.
Let me know which version of Storyline you're using and what slide you're seeing the delay on, and I'll be happy to take a look!
Hello Ali,
Thank you for replying. I can't share my package due to confidentiality issues. However, if needed, I can create a mock-up. I am using 360. I created a networking model that uses a bubble (circle) to show a "path" along the network. To simulate motion, I used animation and triggers. The animation works fine. However, I have several layers that are involved in the animation. The delay that I am experiencing occurs when the "Show next layer when timeline ends" is triggered. The delay between each layer is about 2.5 seconds.
Does this make sense?
Thanks again Ali,
Carol
Thanks for those details, Carol! There definitely shouldn't be such a long delay for a trigger to fire. If you could create a sample file that displays the issue, that would be really helpful. Thanks!
same for me, a big delay, makes my project crap! holly shit, do something please...
if your program do not stop that delay, i will lost my contract!
Hi Max,
I've opened up a support case on your behalf so that you can work directly with one of our support engineers to get to the bottom of the issue you are seeing.

I have a similar issue. On a quiz, I have a character that is placed on the layer to indicate that the student selected the incorrect answer. When playing back on my local pc it is perfect, when I load it onto the LMS, there is occasionally a delay when the character appears, it happens intermittently, and on different layers, never the same layers, is there a way of stopping this problem.
Hello Imke and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you are running into an issue as well. I took a look at the conversations above and I do not have any sample files to take a look at to offer further advice to you here.
With your permission, I'd like you to share your project file with our support engineers to investigate what's happening. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.
Hi Leslie
Thank you for the reply, but I realized it was the LMS and the different
browsers, it does not always happen. We tested this morning. On Moodle it
does not happen, but on Learn Dash it is happening.
Regards
Imke
Thanks for popping back in to share your further findings Imke. Hopefully, your LMS team may be able to shed some additional light on the issue for you.
Let us know if there is anything we can help with.
SCORM Cloud is a great place to test for comparison as well.
