I am not sure why but my invalid answer box has a scrollbar
in it and I can’t seem to get rid of it.
Can you tell me what slide master might control this? I tried adjust the text label but to no
avail. I have attached a screenshot to
show what I mean.
The default Invalid Answer message is something that Storyline generates automatically - it doesn't come from the Feedback Masters, so that's why you're not seeing it in your slide master layouts. But here are some things that you can do to customize it:
If you'd like to completely change the visual design of the message, you could use the method shown here. It involves creating your own slide layer for the Invalid Answer message, and using a trigger to tell Storyline when to display that layer. It's a little more work, but it might give you the customized look that you're after.
Thanks for the quick response. I am not trying to customize the box, only to determine what setting I might have made to end up with a scrollbar. I have no need or desire to charge the color, look and feel, or visual design, just get rid of the scroll.
the scroll bar means your shape/text box is not big enough to hold the text. Try changing the size manually or access the options to auto fit for text.
Can you tell me how to change it manually if the only time I can access/see that box is in the published file? Is there a way I can see it or access it inside SL itself? I don't want to have to create a custom layer for all the questions in my module, I have more than 150 assessment items, and multiple slide masters.
my mistake, you can customise - text colours etc it but not access the layer it is on to change the shape size. Have you changed the default size of your text for other feedback messages? That could be where it is picking up the text size - if it is larger and doesn't then fit the text box, it will cause the scroll bar to appear.
If you haven't changed the text size, perhaps you should log a case and upload your .story file to support so they can help.
The reason I ask: I had answered this question quite some time back, and the issue at that time had been that someone had edited the Invalid answer text in the Player. Because the edited text was long, the box was scrolling. But, two things:
1. I can't make that happen anymore in the latest SL1 update, so it appears it's been fixed.
2. Your Invalid answer text doesn't appear to be that long.
Thanks for joining in. I think I have discovered the issue. The client supplied me with a custom font for the player called DokChampa. While the font looks quite good, I can't help but wonder if the native line spacing for it makes it too large to fit in that box. I am going to resolve it by editing the text for box heading and then shortening the box message. Thanks to you and Wendy for your help.
Go to format shape > text box and at the bottom, you will see overflow handling. Select "Allow Text to Overflow" and that should get rid of the scrollbar. This, however, might be a new feature, and maybe, it didn't exist 7 years ago when this discussion took place :)

Sorry, I couldn't be more help.
Hi Gordon,
Are you using SL1 or SL2. And, if you're using SL1, are you using the latest update- Update 6?
Latest Version: Articulate Storyline Update 6 - Build 1407.2208 (7/24/2014). Download or read release notes.

Hello Gordon!
Thanks for the update, and hopefully editing the custom font will help!
ah, that custom font and the line spacing could be the issue. Now I'm curious!
