As with most organisations, we have a style manual that sets out our brand colours and the fonts that we can use. Is there a way to change the Storyline default font of Articulate to another font, in this case Arial? It's quite time consuming having to change the font everytime I add a text box, etc.
Storyline has a slide master feature that's similar to PowerPoint. This means you can modify the slide layouts and update things like font styles, sizes, colors and more. Those changes will apply to all slides you create based on the customized layouts.
You can also modify your project's themes which includes colors and fonts. Here's a good article on how you can make those customizations.
Finally, once you create your custom layouts and themes, you can save it as a Story Template file. This makes it easy to share your custom layouts with other designers.
Does anyone know how to change the font type once I have already placed font throughout a module? Also how do I change the settngs to go from articulate to a company font type. If I copy information from word into storyline captions, storyline will paste articulate font? .. Can anyone advise me what to do here as I have mixed font throughout my module and I would like an easy way to make changes.
Jeff, it looks like the Marker text changes if you change the default font in the Master. Were you looking to ONLY change the default Marker text? Good question! Hope someone answers.
Elle, you have 3 questions
change the font type once I have already placed font throughout a module I assume you mean change it globally? I just ran a quick test but only on a couple slides. I found that I could go into the Master and apply a new theme. This - worked on slides where I had NOT changed the text from the default Articulate font - as expected, did NOT work on slides where I had manually changed the font. This is typical behavior in Office apps as well: manual changes override global ones

Have you seen the Paste drop-down menu on the Home tab in the Clipboard group (left-most item on the Home tab). After copying text, click the drop-down and choose "Keep source formatting"
I have mixed font throughout my module and I would like an easy way to make changes That's a tough one. The only way I know of to do this relatively quickly is with the Format Painter. Are you familiar with that tool?
Thank you Rebecca, yes, I am wondering if there is a way to alter the default text within "Markers" for all of storyline, not only a certain project. I don't need it to change past Marker text, I just don't want to have to change each one each time.
I'm wondering if anyone is running into this problem:
I have a slide master for my test questions. I'm able to assign a font and color to the question.
I input my questions into my test bank, but when I go to the slides, the font is correct but not the color. Even if I reapply the layout to the slides, the color doesn't change. If it matters, I'm using a custom (company) color.
Not a debilitating problem for this client but I can see this being a problem in other projects (but hopefully not!).
I was given scripts to develop from our ID's and it was driving me mad having to change the fonts as I was developing. Ideally you should set up a template with theme fonts before your ID's script into the tool but if your team jumps the gun, then you need a way to change the fonts as quickly as possible.
One effective approach I had with replacing fonts is as follows:
use the translation feature in Storyline to export the content to MS Word.
use MS Word's Find and Replace and choose the Format button (bottom left) - see screenshot - to replace the font style as desired. (Note: you can alter font sizes, styles etc where needed).
use the translation feature in Storyline to import the content back into your project.
Is there a way to set the default font for the notes? We allow the user to see the notes which is actually the script for the hearing impaired. Thank you so much for your help.
It's not currently possible to change the formatting of all of your notes. If you'd like to see that feature added to a future release, please submit a feature request.
You can format the notes though, and there is a tutorial specific to slide notes here.
These suggestions all worked for me when dealing with fonts, and I was able to create a custom theme with my company color palette. It's going to save me tons of time. But one thing I still hate is having to change the outline on every single shape I create. I want them to have "no outline," but the default seems to be set to a colored 2pt outline. Is there a way to change this default setting, other than Format Painter?
Draw a shape and format it however you would like. Then, you can right-click on the shape and select "Set as Default Shape." Then, no matter which shape you select and draw, it will have those characteristics as default. Hope that helps

I did this and it reduced all the font sizes throughout my project. Is this how it will be for all language work? I was only replacing English with English. The notes section was changed from Articulate to Arial Unicode MS. The rest of the course was already Arial Unicode MS. Why did it reduce all of the font sizes throughout?
Is there a recommendation for story size? Why would I choose one over the other? I will be adding these to my management system and I am not sure what to choose.
In regards to picking a Story size, it really depends on how your users will be viewing the course and the type of content you'll be included. For example, there is a lot of discussion about the best size for iPad deployment. The default story size of 720 x 540 is your best option (in our opinion). However, as long as you maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio, you can change your story size to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768, etc.
I'm familiar with Master Slides, and with using the Themes in Storyline, but I can't figure out how to change the font size after I've created a new Theme font. It only allows me to change the font type. I'd like to (at one time), change the font size of all my quiz item responses from 12pt to something larger. Any suggestions? Thanks!
After you've selected your Font Theme, the only way I know of to make "almost" global changes is via the Slide Master.
If you click on the very top master and change the size on the "Click to Edit Master Title" and "Click to Edit Master Text Styles' placeholders, the size should carry through for all Title Only Layouts and for Title and Content Layouts.
To change the Quiz Title and or Quiz Response sizes, again
Click the Slide Master
Click on the Question layout and change the size in the
"Click to edit Question Title" and
"Click to edit choice text styles" placeholders.
Note that if you use a Question with Media layout you'll also need to make changes there.
Thanks, Rebecca. That's what I ended up doing. It just seemed like, if I was creating a new font, I should be able to control more. I appreciate your help.
I need my default hint caption box during capturing screen recordings to be a certain color and font style - this is working using the color & font themes.
However where I need help with is how do I change from the default text size 16 and remove the shadow effect on the text and the width of the caption box? I need size 14 no shadow and best fit for the hint caption box. Is it even possible? My fingers would appreciate a solution :)

Here's where you can learn more about slide masters.

Hi Sarah! Looks like Patricia is helping you out here
Thanks Patricia!
Hi Becky, I'd wondered about this for a while (as you would know)...
Thanks for the three options; gives me something to play with!

Thanks for sharing Michael! I love when these older threads are still helping individuals learn
Hey, Michael! I saw you addressing "Becky" here, and I thought hmmm...me? Scrolled up on the page...wow! posted that a year ago!
