Does anyone know how I can remove the shadow from the text of my captions?
I'm using the standard captions from within Storyline and when I type directly into the caption my text has a shadow which I can't work out how to remove.
I've even tried removing the shadow from the caption shape itself but the shadow remains on the text...
Hi Louis! Here are a couple of options that should do the trick. Depending on what you want to do you can either turn off the shadow setting or clear all formatting from the text formatting area on the home tab.
I had "accidentally" removed it before - but it's nice that this time I didn't have to stumble on the way to do it. Thanks for posting this Louis - and thanks for answering, Mike!
Neither of these solutions work for me. As you can see on the screenshot the drop shadow is still there even thought it should be turned off and even if I clear all formatting it is still there.
I see that captions automatically include the shadow when I start them in Storyline, but I'm able to highlight and remove the shadow from the "home" tab with the Shadow option.
My issue was that the shadow option would not remove the shadow. It occurred on captions that were imported from PowerPoint. So I tried creating a new caption on an blank slide and the same problem existed. The shadow was always there no matter how I tried to remove it.
I tried creating a new blank project with a new caption and I could still not remove the shadow.
Then I worked out I was doing all these tests by pasting the same piece of text. Somehow the text that came from PowerPoint was carrying around the formatting that did not allow the shadow to be removed. I pasted the text into notepad and recopied it to remove any extra formatting. When I pasted this back into the caption the shadow can be removed as expected.
Do I understand this completely? Not at all, but I have got a solution.
Thanks for the update and information. I've definitely heard of other issues with copying/pasting text and that it carried over the formatting and caused issues within Storyline - so you'll want to use a tool such as Notepad to remove the formatting elements prior to inserting into Storyline.
Feel free to let us know if you need anything else.
Could you share one of these files prior to doing the save as so that we can take a look at what you've got set up and then try it on our end as well? You'll also want to confirm that you're working on project files as described here.
Sorry, I can not share the file as it´s a finalized course with copyrihgts, so i could get in troubles. About your question if I am working with "project files as described here" just to say that the file was shared with me in google drive or Skype (do not remember) but just to copy it to my local drive.
Are you able to share with me privately? We keep files confidential if shared with us in the form of a support case, so you could send it along here. Or if you're able to create a small mock up file you could share that one here in the forums.
This is the thread I linked to in your other thread and as I mentioned the users who couldn't remove shadow elements in this thread were experiencing corruption issues. As you mentioned this is only in captions, which the shadow is a part of the default as Les is mentioning here as well. But I'm still able to remove the shadow, so if you're having difficulty removing the shadow at all, please let us know. We'll want to take a look at your file ot see if there is anything else occuring and you can send it along here.
Is there any way to set non-shadowed caption text to the default or master setting so that you don't need to turn it off with every caption? I've tried the Set as Default Shape option and it didn't work, and I can't find any master controls for this sort of element.
It's the default setting, and you'd need to look at using the workaround shown here or you may want to look into using the Format painter in Storyline, although you should be able to set it as default as described in this thread. Can you confirm that you're working with the latest update of Storyline 2, Update 7?

Glad that this thread helped you out Kristin!

This is only an issue in captions.

Drew, can you share your Storyline file?
The file causing problems contains my clients content which is inappropriate to share.
I've done some tests which seem to suggest it happens after importing some PowerPoint slides.
Then it happens not just with the PowerPoint content but from then on any new captions created in the project.
I'll do some more testing and see if I can isolate what starts the issue.

Thanks for sharing Drew, I found myself in the same situation it was helpful for me now!
Glad this thread helped you out Antonio.
Actually, I found out that it happen after I saved my SL course with a different name, using save as...
All the shapes with text changed to have shadow in the text, could that be a bug?

Hi Ashley,
I uploaded in the link you copied me as support case. Case Number: 00623097
Thanks,

Thanks Antonio - I'll take a look there and be in touch via the case.
I am having the same issue, did we get a resolution here?
Caption shape text, apparently, defaults to shadow. Whereas, other shapes, e.g., rectangle, does not.

I found that I needed to enter "Edit States" to remove the shadow.
