Character return issue with Freeform text entry quiz screens
May 05, 2017
Hi, I recently noticed an issue when using a text entry freeform screen to create a data entry questionnaire. The learner is asked to enter their response in the box and then click the confirm button. However, if one presses the character return (enter) key to move to the next line in the box, it automatically jumps to the feedback layer without having to click the Confirm button. Is this a bug? My workaround to this was to remove Freeform and manually create the triggers which is not ideal. I also need to change the revisiting behavior on the screen to 'Reset to initial state', however, it doesn't seem to work for me upon returning to the screen. It seems to have retain the response. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. I'm using Storyline 2.

Hi there Maggie!
Pressing the Enter key is like clicking the Submit button for Freeform Text Entry slides. Are you able to use an Essay slide instead? That will give you the freedom to press Enter and start a new line of text.
It sound like you also want to erase the learner's text when they return to that slide. Although this thread is a bit older, it's got some great suggestions for how to do that.
I hope this helps!
Hi Alyssa,
This is awesome, thank you so much for your assistance on this. I will try your suggested solution on the text entry slides.
And thanks for directing me to the discussion on erasing a learner's text entry on retry. Very helpful.
You're welcome, Maggie! Glad I could help.
