I tried to find this in the forum but nothing came up. I have two hover states that do not work. When I hover the mouse in preview, nothing happens. The only hover that works is if I have a trigger as well. That is fine but it did not used to be the way a state worked.
Has this happened to anyone else? Have I done something I have never done before?
I'm experiencing this with the hover state as well and I'm using a transparent shape over my object. When I preview my project, and hover over where I placed the transparent shapes, the hover is not appearing. Am I setting this up incorrectly?
This thread is over a year old - so we'll want to know if you're working with Storyline 1 or Storyline 2, and more detail about what is happening in your file and as Sinchu mentioned to share a copy of the .story file would be helpful as well.
You need to make sure that the layer you want to show doesn't have any attributes assigned to it. Click on the layer, then on the little gear icon to right of the layer title. Make sure those visibility boxes are unchecked.
Hi, I'm having the same issue. Am using Storyline 2. I have a image of an office. Over a portion of the image is a circle I've added. I want the circle to show as invisible when 'normal' viewing, but the circle to appear when the mouse hovers over it (to bring attention to a section of the image, so they will click on the section). I tried getting it to work using the Hover state but when using preview the circle doesn't appear when the mouse hovers over it.
I just tested this and was about to give the same solution. Create a shape but the Normal state is 100% transparent and the hover state will have only the line visible with no fill.
Hi, I had the same problem since I made the uptade 10: 1607.1221 yesterday.
I was working with the french version and the hover states weren't working. I've changed my settings to English, and now it works (after I had to rename all of the hover states to "Hover" since they were named "Survol" which is the translation of hover in french and weren't recognized...). Seems to be a problem with the translation of the interface.
I had already the same problem with a previous update and the "selected" state...
I've lost one hour to find out the issue... who pays for it?
Thanks for reaching out here, and I'm sorry to hear you've run into this issue. Our team is currently investigating an issues with the states when you're using a non-English UI set up. What we've found is the state does not work correctly when using the "duplicate" function to set up a new built in state - but that choosing to create a "new" state allows it to behave normally. I'll be sure this forum discussion is included in the report filed with our team, so that we can update you here once there is additional information to share, but I don't have a timeframe to offer in regards to any updates or fixes.
when you hover over each of the pictures what should be happening just a change of state?
You don't need to have triggers for the built in state SL knows what action to take.
See your updated file - I added Hover and Selected states to the experience image. I have no associated triggers but it is changing states as I would expect when I hover or click.
1. Education, Recommendations, and Strengths all have a Hover state, but since the hover state is exactly the same as the Normal state, you won't be able to observe when the Hover state kicks in.
2. If an object has a state named Hover, the built-in triggers kick in when the mouse hovers over it. Creating your own triggers to cause it to change states will usually conflict with those triggers. The results, while sometimes interesting, are seldom desirable.
Solution: Edit States to give the objects an observably different Hover state, and delete all triggers that reference when mouse hovers over. (The same applies for the selected state.)
Thanks Wendy and Walt! Tyler, let us know how you make out. :) Here's a general User Guide article about working with states, and the section on Triggering States substantiates what Wendy and Walt describe.
Thank you, Walt's response did the trick, and now what Wendy said is making sense too. It wasn't clicking in my head at first but I've got it now:). It's been a year or two since I've been in there but it's coming back quickly. Thanks so much for your quick responses!
Thanks for the update Tyler, and a little bit of time away means a little bit of time learning again. Glad the community was able to make that a bit easier for you!
This has been interesting to follow and the different issues other have with states. I have to laugh because I do not remember what my original problem was.
This group solved it and so far everything I do with states works! Good to see others having their problems solved as well.

That is strange - is there something sitting on top of the objects (a transparent shape or something)?
Or is your hovered object in a different position to where the mouse is? this would stop the hover working
Hi Jeffrey! Looks like you've got two super heroes taking care of you here

Thanks for the assistance!

Same problem here. Please help! :(

Is the hover state on the transparent rectangle or on the object?

For a shape to recognize that the mouse is over it, it has to have a fill. To make a filled shape invisible, you can set its transparency to 100%.
If the shape is hidden initially, it will not sense the mouse.

Wahoo, that fixed it Walt and Jeffrey. Thanks much for the quick response and fix!
