Issues with cue points

Sep 08, 2022

Hi everyone,

I'm facing issues with interactive videos I've built with Stoyline 360.

I've searched for solutions there, and even if I found some issue descriptions similar to my problems,  none of them seems to give a satisfying solution.

Here is the description :

  • I have some tutorial videos (screen castings of a webapp manipulations, 1,30 to 4 minutes each) and I want to make them interactive ;
  • Each project is a unique scene with a unique slide in it, and in this slide, I insert the tutorial video ;
  • I added several cue points to precise moments in the timeline, and added triggers to pause the slide timeline at these cue points ;
  • At these cue points I also added clickable objects, or trigger to show a layer with annotations.
  • The user has to click on this objects to resume slide timeline (and mask the annotations layer if there is one)

All these pause / showing up / hide / resume triggers are working very well.

The issue is that when the timeline is resuming, I randomly have little lags between the video resuming and the slide timeline resuming, but this unsyncing obviously affects following pauses at following cue points.

I have to precise that I'm working on a powerfull workstation, and these unsyncing issues appears using project preview, review 360 publication, or LMS Scorm publication as well. It seems to be more frequent if the connection bandwith is weak, or if the pause is longer, but I always experiment this unsyncing.

Can you help me ? :)

 Adrien

(ps: I apologize if terms in my description are not correct but I'm using a french version of Storyline 360, and english is not my mother language ^^)

Hi Section conception-ingenierie SNPS,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community! I understand you're experiencing a lag with your videos and slides when the timeline is resuming.

I'd like to ask you a few clarifying questions to help troubleshoot.

I want to confirm that this is happening in preview mode, when published to Review 360, and when published to LMS. I'd like to test your file to see what's going on! You can upload it here or privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.

Hi Kelly,

Thank you for your reply and assistance :

  • Yes, I'm working form a local hard drive. But I don't think that would change something because even when the project is published, the lag occurs.
  • It seems occuring at random, but I'm pretty shure it's learner's bandwtih and/or computer powerfullness dependant. It's also occuring more frequently if the pause between video timeline stop and timeline resuming is longer.
  • Unfortunately, importing slide into a new Storyline file doesn't change anything.
  • And I confirm It is happening in preview mode, and when published to review 360 or LMS.

Thank you for your testing propisition. I would be happy to use the private support case upload, but I'll need  an undertaking of confidentiality because the tutorial is about a french police web application.

Hi Section conception-ingenierie SNPS,

Thank you for clarifying!

I want to connect you with one of our support engineers, so I went ahead and opened a case on your behalf. You should hear from our team soon, via e-mail.

Our Support team can also sign an NDA, if it helps with the information security policy.

Have a great day!

Hi Luciana,

I didn't received any e-mail from your support team relating to this case. Is this normal ?

I'm aware that few days could be necessary for a busy support team but we have a -sometimes too- heavy spam filter in my organisation so I'd just want to check if everything's ok.

Have a great day !

Hello Section conception-ingenierie SNPS!

Thanks so much for checking in. I have just re-sent the email. Please let us know if you have received it. From there, our Support Engineers will be able to take a look.

I appreciate you checking in. Our team will be in touch shortly.

Hope you have a great day too! ☀️

Hello Everyone,

I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 77, we've included important fixes and new features.

One of the enhancements we've included:

  • Video goes out of sync with the timeline when the timeline is paused at certain points.

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

I'm a newb and have a small framed video that keeps playing even though I accidentally (in this case) paused the slide timeline itself. Is there a trigger that I need to add in order to pause one when the other is paused so they stay in sync? I confirmed I do have the most recent build/update.

Luciana Piazza

Hi Lisa!

Thanks for reaching out!  If I understand correctly, when you play the video, the timeline pauses for the slide you are currently viewing.

I have a few questions to clarify your setup:

It would be very helpful to take a closer look at your file. Feel free to share your .story file in this thread or privately in a support case.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
