Our company makes their own templates and these are updated frequently.
I am looking for a way to change the template for an existing course. For example, in PowerPoint, you can open a presentation and just click the design tab to apply a different template. Can that be done in Storyline and if so, how?
In versions of PowerPoint earlier than 2007, to change the look of your presentation, you applied a Design Template. In PowerPoint 2007 and 2010, you apply a theme to achieve the same result.
From the ground up, we have kept pace with Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and designed Articulate Storyline similarly. Click here to read about using Themes in Storyline.
Using and Creating Storyline Templates is a slightly different animal. You can insert a new slide based on a Template at any time, or you can create a new project based on an existing template. However, you would not be able to apply a Template to an existing project.
Please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks!
Here's how to save a Storyline project as a template (look for the "How to save a project as a template" heading). Is that what you're looking for? Good luck!

I have created a Storyline Template but now I want to go back in and add to the template. I can't figure out how to open the template. Is there a trick? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Once you've saved your .storytemplate file, Storyline adds a copy of the template in your template library, which is maintained in the folder called \My Articulate Projects\Storyline Templates. To modify this file, do as follows:
Open Storyline. At the Learning Storyline splash screen, click the Browse... button at the lower-left corner.
Browse to the \My Articulate Projects\Storyline Templates\ folder.
In the File Types drop-down box at the lower-right corner, select Storyline Templates (*.storytemplate).
Double-click the .storytemplate file that you wish to modify.
Make your changes, then Save and Close your .storytemplate file.
Create a new .story project file and attempt to apply your Template.
Please let us know if you need anything else, and have a great day. Thanks!
Ok, I'm confused. I can create a *.storylinetemplate file and use it to create a new project, but I can't apply it to an existing project-- even when I used an earlier version of the same template to create the project. Any layout updates have to be done manually in each project.
Is this correct? If so, that's extremely limited functionality for something that is meant create layout consistency. Is there a workaround for this?
You can import a PowerPoint Template into Storyline, but not the other way around. It sounds like you'll want to manually re-create the design of the Storyline Slide Master in the PowerPoint master. I hope this helps!
I have previously published in Storyline using an old template. I have created a new template which I want to use. How can I use the new template? Do I have to manually update the old template? I want to keep all the content and interactions from the previously published template.

Hi Justin,
Is it possible to save your own templates? I don't see the option anywhere.
Thanks for your help!
Good Afternoon, Amy.

To change the look of an existing Storyline project, you'll want to apply a theme.

Hi Justin,
I have created a template in Articulate Storyline 2. How can I apply to a current powerpoint presentation?
Thanks

That's correct, Anna! You'll want to open the original Storyline file to update the template. This handy guide will show you the way!
