I'm creating a software simulation that needs to be tracked. Since certain steps require right-clicking, I have a graded hotspot interaction with a trigger that says "Submit interaction when the user right clicks on the hotspot." When testing it, right-clicking generates the Invalid Answer popup instead of submitting and moving on to the next slide.
Does anyone know what's going on here? I attached screenshots of my triggers menu and the expanded trigger for the submit interaction trigger.
FYI, I figured this out. You have to first open the Edit Hotspot menu (top right) and then change "Submit" on the top to "On Right Click." Then you still have to go setup your trigger to work with a right click.
I'm creating a similar interaction, but I need a "left click" to be incorrect. That is, right click on the hot spot is correct, left click on the same hot spot is incorrect.
I changed the setting that Arend mentions, and didn't get any feedback for a left click. I tried changing that setting to Submit on "click" but that didn't work either.
I was able to set this up in a freeform hotspot interaction as you'll see here. If you've got something different set up - are you able to share an example here with us?
I had a similar idea, but wanted to give the learner 3 tries to get it right. Here's how I did it:
Created a variable named Attempts
Added 1 to the Attempts variable each time the learner clicked the Try Again button on the Try Again layer.
Added 2 free form hot spots (one for the correct spot, one for the wrong spot) on the base layer and assigned triggers on both to show the appropriate layer depending on the user input (right click vs. left click and correct vs. incorrect) and the number of attempts.
Set the "submit interaction" setting to On Right Click
I was concerned if the results would be calculated correctly, but it appears that they are.
I've upgraded to the most recent version of SL2 and that right-click to submit the interaction no longer seems to work. Can you give my "egg" project another try, Ashley. I'm SURE it worked before.
With update 5 of Storyline 2, you may find that right-click triggers aren't currently working in Flash output.
We're investigating this issue and will post additional information here as it becomes available.
In the meantime, we recommend viewing the HTML5 version of your course if right-click triggers are required. You can force the HTML5 output to launch by default by linking directly to the story_html5.html file in your published output (rather than the story.html file).
I'll include this thread in the report filed with our QA team and keep you posted with any additional information here.
I need mine to be correct for a right-click and incorrect for a left click as well. I set up the freeform hotspot interaction as shown in Ashley's example. But how do I modify it to make the right-click correct instead of left?
Thanks, Michael! Just to be clear, this is a simulated software interaction - so I can set a trigger in the slide view where if they left click the hotspot it shows the incorrect layer, right? that's been my issue is having two triggers on the one hotspot, I think.
I have a graded software simulation where I simply want the user to click the hotspot to show the correct layer and click outside of the hotspot to show the incorrect.
I have 2 triggers:
Submit Hotspot when the user clicks outside Hotspot1
Submit Hotspot when the user clicks outside Hotspot 1
When I preview, I click outside of the hotspot and it says "Invalid Answer: You must complete the question before submitting" while showing the "incorrect" layer.
The description of your triggers confused me a little, as they seem to be the same ones. Would you be able to share your .story file here so we can take a look at what's going on?

Hi Arend! Glad that you were able to get this sorted and I appreciate you sharing with everyone :)

Ah, perfect Michael! Glad you were able to get this working as you wanted. And, just in time for Easter! :-)

Hi all,
You may find that right-click triggers aren't working on the base slide layers in your Articulate Storyline 2 Flash output.
This issue was fixed in Update 7 for Storyline 2. Install the latest version of Storyline 2 to take advantage of the new features and fixes, then republish your course.
Thank you Arend, you saved me hours of frustration!
I know this is old, but.... :- )

You can configure that from the Question Tools Design Tab, Valerie.
But then add a trigger that shows your "incorrect" layer when the learner left clicks on the slide.

Yay! I think it works... at least in preview mode. :-)
Great! I dropped a sample earlier in this thread. Take a look.

I do have Submit set to "On Click"
Hi, Jeannie.
Thank you for reaching out! I'm happy to help!
