Spell check problems
Nov 02, 2018
Hello,
The spell check feature in Storyline isn't working correctly. When a word is misspelled sometimes the software doesn't catch it, or when it does and underlines it in red I will right click and there either won't be a replacement or if I select the replacement it doesn't fix it.
Also, every time I use contractions it tells me they are misspelled (e.g., "doesn't" will show incorrect and it often will just show "doesn't" when I right click but then either not fix it or it replaces it so this shows up: doesn't't).
I'm at a loss as to how to fix this and it's making editing tricky.

Hi Alexandra!
We've seen other reports of spell check issues like this, but this has been a tough one to nail down. Similar to what you experienced, other folks reported that the spell check tool doesn't recognize contractions, and the word suggestion will be incorrect.
Do you notice that the red underline will disappear if you click outside the text box? We've seen that has been a good workaround for most people.
Our team has eyes on this issue, and I'll be sure to add your experience to our report. If anything changes, we'll let you know!
Great news, Alexandra - and those following along!
We fixed the issue you reported where the spell check tool would not recognize contractions and return wrong spelling suggestions.
Here's how you can update Storyline 360 to see all the latest features and fixes. If this problem resurfaces, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
That's great Katie about the contractions but what about the second half of the spell check issue. When in Notes, the system recognizes the typo, offers the correct spelling, but when selecting, it does NOT replace it with the selected correct spelling. You literally have to manually update, and then the red line goes away. This seems counter productive. Any news on that front?
Thanks!
Hi C!
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you are running into an issue with spell check on your Notes.
I took a look and I am unable to replicate:
What version of Storyline 360 are you using? We are currently on Build 3.26.18601.0.
I'm having this issue again. For a while, contractions seemed to work. The problem was fixed in closed captioning, but it persists in Notes. words like "you'll" and "it's" consistently come up as being spelling errors. I'm using SL3 Update 9: 3.9.21069.0
Hi Joyce!
Thanks for sharing this! I've noticed the same error on my end, so I've created a bug report so that our team can begin investigating. I've also added your comments as we are continuing to track customer impact.
When I have an update, I'll report back to this discussion.
Hello!
I'm experiencing the same thing....see the attachment...I have a small box for a learner to type in something, when they click submit, the next layer displays the correct wording/spelling, etc....however the RED LINE that indicates error still displays.
I've added by .story screen images so you can see my setup
Hello Mary!
Those screenshots were very helpful! Thank you for sharing them. I've added your comments to the report as well! Since you're already subscribed to this discussion, you'll be notified when we return with an update!
Hello Lauren!
Do you have any updates on this fix?
He is my 2 cents, when I hold down my right button on my mouse for a long time, may up to 10 seconds it corrects most of my miss spells. Doesn't always work, I have learned to just work around. Not a good speller anyway. The other thing I do is to publish in word, find the corrections and put them in. I then use the word doc for my script for our voice talent. o the publication in word is not wasted time. Word will give me a quicker voice to double check also.
Hi
« I’m experiencing the same problem as Mary Gray; a spellcheck red line stays visible when the containing textarea is hidden… Check out those print screen. »
I am seeing this issue in storyline 3. Sometimes it changes the word when I highlight the entire word
Is there a plan to fix this problem. It's persisted for quite a while. I've transitioned to Articulate 360, and the issue is still the same. Contractions work in captioning, but not in notes.
Hi Joyce,
This issue is still open as we continue tracking user impact.
I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur.
Do you know what version of Storyline you're using?
You can check by going to:
Help > About Articulate Storyline
We are currently on Build 3.41.22450.0 of Storyline 360. You can read all of the details here.
I just tested a sample and did not get the errors reported above. What are your dictionary settings?
Looks like my settings match yours. Since that update was just released today, perhaps it fixed the issue. I'll have to wait and see whether the problem comes back. :)
Yeah, this is a very annoying issue. It's nice that Articulate lets you know that your word is misspelled but it should let you click on the correct spelling.
And contractions continue to show as misspelled words in the notes.
Came here for the same issue. I did notice that if you double-click the red underlined word to highlight it, then right-click and select the correct spelling, it seems to fix the misspelled word. I hope this helps some of you!
Hi, everyone.
I just wanted to share that we are no longer seeing the bug reported where contractions are underlined as spelled incorrectly in Notes using the latest build of Storyline (3.61.27106.0).
If you're using the latest version and you're still experiencing this issue, please reach out to our support team through a case.
I still have both problems in Storyline 360 (v3.63.2768.0). And while an update appeared a couple of days ago, I've been told the update is breaking some of our courses.
Hi, Richard.
If you're still experiencing the bug where contractions are underlined as misspelled in Notes when using version 3.63.2768.0, can you share a sample .story file so we can investigate?
I tried it on my end, but I can't reproduce it. You're welcome to submit the file privately through a support case.
Unfortunately, I can't. Proprietary information.
Sincerely,

still an issue :(
I updated yesterday, so I have the latest version. It is still a problem for me too.
Hi, everyone.
Thank you very much for sharing what you're seeing!
Based on your experiences and additional tests, we've re-opened the bug report where contractions are underlined as spelled incorrectly in Notes.
We'll come back to update you when we have news to share!
