Storyline Tracking options

Feb 17, 2020

Hi - I want to be able to track by section of the module I've created. Is this possible. At the moment, if the user completes the whole module then they'll have completed the module based on the completion trigger at the end, however if they never complete all the sections, then they'll never complete the module and I won;t be able to see which parts they've visited and which they haven't. I'd like to set up a trigger at the end of each section that the LMS will pick up.

Thanks, Mark

Hey Mark,

Thanks for contacting us to share what you would like to create with your project.

You can have more than one completion trigger, but this will be dependent on if your LMS allows this set-up.

When you publish to LMS, you can track by one method:

  • Track using number of slides viewed: Mark this option to trigger course completion when learners view a specific number of slides.
  • Track using quiz result: Mark this option to track learners based on their quiz results. If your course has multiple quizzes, choose the one you want to track. (This option will be grayed-out if your course doesn’t have any result slides.)
  • Track using complete course trigger: Mark this option to track learners based on course completion triggers you added to your course. (This option is grayed-out if your course doesn't have any completion triggers.)

I know you mentioned that you're using a course completion trigger, but you may want to consider using a quiz result slide, even if the user does not see it, to create your course and simulate this 'tracking' needed.

Here are some details to get you started on this.

Great - thanks Leslie! I managed to add a quiz to each section following the instructions but not tested the output yet. One thing I am struggling with is that I managed to get all but 1 of the quizzes to jump to the right next slide, but I cannot get 1 of them to jump to the right next slide. I can see the path set up for it, but there is no way I can see to edit where it jumps to next. The other quizzes didn't give me the same problem.

Hi Mark,

What kind of trigger is being used here? Is it a Jump to Next Slide trigger? If so, what might help is to define what that next slide is.

To do this, you will want to locate the Jump to Next Slide trigger >>Click on Next Slide >> Then select the slide you want to jump to:

Please let us know if you have any questions about this! We are happy to help!

Hi Leslie. I have now set up all the quizzes and the results slide.  I just wanted to check how I need to set up the results slide some it works. I have ticked all the short answer quizzes I want to include in the results, do I need to change the passing score?

I'm new to this, so my understanding of what I've done is:

1) I've created a short survey quiz for each section of my module. When they user passes this slides in the module, then the quiz autocompletes the short answer with the variable I've created (e.g "section1") and then automatically carries onto the next defined slide.

2) The result slide is then taking the text entries from the questions I have selected to be included

3) When I create the SCORM, then I am identifying the result slide as the one that reports to the LMS

4) I should then be able to see which sections the user has visited via the reporting in the LMS (?)

Is this correct?

Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark!

I'd suggest uploading the course to SCORM cloud, which is an industry-standard testing Learning Management System. You can read more about why we love SCORM cloud here!

This will help us understand if the results slides report the scores from the multiple results slides. If you see an error, would you mind sharing a screenshot of the report?

Hi Lauren - I signed up for SCORM Cloud (thanks!) and I don;t think my triggers are working. I've created a short answer survey for each section and a results slide at the end. When I click through the module, then I seem to navigate past the quiz pages ok (although they do flash up briefly before moving to the next slide - is there a way of hiding them properly so they don;t show at all?). I am then exiting the course by using the x in the top right corner. When I go into SCORM Cloud the quizzes don;t look as it for they are working. I've take a screen shot of the SCORM report, the quiz set up and results page set up. Help!!

Hi Mark,

Thank you for sharing those screenshots! Nothing appears to be jumping out at me right away.
