Tabbing issue
Jun 27, 2018
I have a screen that was tabbing correctly until I updated Storyline 360. There are two text boxes on the screen with animations (I've tried float in and fly in) that appear by paragraph. Initially they tab correctly ie correct order and yellow border around whole text box. However, once you have tabbed to everything on the page, the tab moves to each paragraph (in the animated text box) starting at the bottom and continuing towards the top. The text box is included in the tab order but the individual paragraphs are not.

Hi Desiree. Thanks for pointing this behavior out. I'm seeing the same thing in my test file. I can see how that can be confusing for learners using a screen reader. I'll get it documented for our team to investigate, and I'll keep this discussion updated!
This is also occurring in my recently updated Storyline 360 app. What is the status of this functionality? It IS very confusing when using a screen reader (which I use to test my elearning) and there is apparently no way around it...
Hi Laurie!
This is a bug that our team is continuing to investigate!
Are you seeing this issue with every file or just a specific one? Either way, I'd like to add your comments to the report. Also, which screen reader are you using? (NVDA, JAWS, etc.)
I'll report back to this discussion when I hear of an update.
Hello,
So far I have only been working in one file. It is consistent in this file that when I have animated the text boxes using the "paragraph" entrance option the tab order is apparently impacted by the animation choice. I can tab through all of the visible text boxes and then must tab again through each individually animated text line in the box. Even if I wasn't using a screen reader this would be happening which is frustrating for anyone, but with the screen reader it is also confusing because it's mysterious why all of the sudden one is hearing the same text again. The screen reader I am using is NVDA.
Thank you
Laurie

Hi Laurie,
Thank you for providing these details! I'll be sure to add these comments to our report.
You're in the right place, and we'll be sure to provide updates as soon as we can!
Hi all,
Any word on a fix for this issue? Tabbing through a course is not catching any text boxes, even if the alt text description is checked on them. We need this to work so we can test the reading order and how a screen reader would find the content. As of right now, NVDA screen reader is not catching our text box content, and this is a big problem for us, clients, and students.
Yes... help, SOS, 911...
I'm experiencing the same issue ever since upgrading to Articulate 360. I was able to solve the "yellow box" issue in SL2 when using Tab interactions by deselecting Alt Text option on objects (or by using Tab Order).
Now in SL360, even with the Alt Text deselected the yellow box is appearing on the inside of the entire window or on the PREV or NEXT buttons.
The other frustration is that I'm experiencing different yellow box behavior in the SL preview, 360 Review, published to LMS viewed in IE, and LMS viewed in Chrome.
I doesn't look like there is a solution yet, but I though I would add my experience.
Attached is an example of the "yellow box" around the entire stage. This was published to LMS/HTML5 and viewed in IE. (Unfortunately, our users are still using IE and the primary/default browser.)
The attached image shows the next slide after Tab was pressed.
All of the Alt Text options are deselected and there are no objects on the master slides.
Hi Paul!
It looks like our team is still investigating this bug so I don't have an exact timeline on when the fix is ready to be released.
We are still tracking customer impact which is another factor we use when prioritizing bugs. Since you've posted in this discussion, you'll be notified when we report back with a fix!
Thank you for sharing the details and especially the screenshot! So helpful!
Hi Everyone,
I am happy to share that we just released the newest version of Storyline 360 Build 3.37.21453.0, which fixed the issue where screen readers would read animated paragraphs out of sequence.
The next step is to update Storyline 360 by heading to your Articulate 360 desktop app and clicking "Update" next to Storyline 360.
As always, we are happy to answer any questions you have by posting in this discussion, or you can contact our Support Engineers directly.
