Text Entry Field - Automatic Reset

May 26, 2023

Hi everyone!  I am creating a freeform text entry interaction, and I need to have the text entry box clear twice - and if they don't enter the correct letter two times, the slide should automatically advance to the next slide.  The tricky part is that we don't want the student to have to click anywhere.  I'm able to set it up where the slide advances automatically if the correct letter is input, but I can't figure out how to get it to clear and allow them to try two times.  Any ideas on how to make this happen?

Hello Lyndsie,

Thanks for reaching out!

If you don't want your learners to click anywhere to submit a question, you can assign a 'Submit Key' to a Text Entry Freeform Question instead.

And if you want to limit the number of attempts to 2, you can do so by setting the number of attempts here.

On how to clear the user's input after every attempt, there isn't a built-in way to do this right now, but I'll let the community chime in so other members can share how they were able to achieve a similar effect.

I'm also having this issue. The data entry text box is set to be submitted when the user hits enter. It's submitting it, however when they click try again, they have their incorrect answer in the field along with a blank line from having hit enter. I've tried adding a trigger to remove the incorrect entry (see screenshot)

and I've set the slide properties to reset to initial state when revisiting (see screenshot)

This question has been asked numerous times over the years and I did refer to post #1 and post #2 without finding an answer that works.

 Any help is appreciated!

Your project works perfectly. I copy/pasted the slide that's not working for me into a new project to send here, and it is working perfectly once it's in a new project. So now I need to figure out why when it's in my project it's working incorrectly. I think I'll send it to support to help me. Thank you Nedim!
