How Can Course Designers Boost Their E-Learning Brain Power?

Looking to improve your working knowledge of variables and advanced triggers? Then you need to practice using those skills!

There are lots of ways you can practice. One way to practice is to develop a strong understanding of the basics. Another way is to deconstruct advanced projects built by other users. And that’s what this week’s memory makeover challenge is all about!

Here are three matching games to help you get started with this week’s challenge. You’re welcome to use one of the existing games or build everything on your own.

Challenge of the Week

This week, your challenge is to makeover one of the memory game templates in our downloads section. Since the files are already built, your primary goal is to come up with a creative design concept or theme for your entry.

If you’re up for stretching your skills, try adding or removing the number of tiles in your game. This will get you to work with the existing variables, naming conventions, and triggers in the original game.

Wow I have finally done it! This was a great challenge for me to learn some more about triggers and variables, I started with Przemysław Hubisz's Matching Pairs template, and rebuilt it in order to understand what was going on. _ I added an extra trigger to fix the glitch where you can select more than 2 at a time. When I posted my first example for this challenge, I stated that it was similar to the "shell game" where a marble is placed under a cup or shell and then they are mixed up and you must find the marble. This morning, I decided to create Version 2 of my previous entry for this challenge. It now resembles a cup with a marble under it. http://www.markwoolwine.com/ELC/121v2/

I really like the window info instead of a traditional "that's correct" or that's a match. It occurs to me that I could have done that with the caesar recipe. Great job!

What a neat idea introducing what happens in different countries. Taking a template and putting a really nice twist on it for the holidays. Nice Brianna! I agree with Brenda on the correct/incorrect.

I wanted to do this challenge so badly, but it just took me forever to think through the logistics! So I downloaded a bunch of the Memory game files, and then I realized that nobody had made (that I know of) the ULTIMATE memory game from back in the day! So I will call this game... "Sigmund." That's a really cool (and challenging!) example, Katarzyna! I remember being obsessed with Morse Code as a kid. Sadly, I wasn't able to do so well on your game. It was similar with me. As a child I knew the Morse Code very well and now, well, I can remember only SOS code. Thank you David for your time and good word.

I love this example Lizzie, great concept and a fun game. The only problem I had was the word "trainers", I guessed correctly, but here, if I said trainers to anyone, I'd probably get a blank stare. We'd just call them running shoes.
