We started the E-Learning Heroes community to give you everything you need to be a successful course creator. It’s the best place to give and get help, advice, inspiration, and expertise on Articulate apps and e-learning. It provides meaningful connection, free content, and expert advice to more than 800,000 members.

Those members are the heart and soul of E-Learning Heroes. Whether they’re asking or answering questions, sharing examples or downloads, or providing feedback on other members’ contributions, their presence brings enormous value to the community.

To foster an even deeper connection among members, we’re posting a series of articles highlighting different people from the community. This is the second article in that series. If you missed the first one, featuring Jackie Van Nice, be sure to check it out via the link. Without further ado, let’s meet our second featured community member and Articulate Super Hero: Wendy Farmer.

Name: Wendy Farmer

Based In: Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia

Job Title: Freelance E-Learning Developer

E-Learning Pro Since: 2008

How did you get your start in e-learning?

“I was working as a software consultant, doing face-to-face training, when the company I worked for started getting into e-learning. So you could say I kind of fell into it!”

What’s your e-learning philosophy?

“Make it relevant, engaging, and avoid locking down the navigation whenever possible.”

What’s your favorite thing about working in e-learning?

“I love getting feedback from my client that the project was successful—that learners are engaged. It’s so rewarding to hear that the training I’ve developed is having an impact.”

What’s your go-to interaction type and why?

“Pick one (aka multiple choice). It’s so versatile! I’d like to thank former Articulate community manager Jeanette Brooks for opening my eyes to all the possible ways to use them.”

What’s your favorite thing about the E-Learning Heroes Community?

“The amazing people who share knowledge and sample files. It’s the best forum run by a software company that I’ve ever encountered.”

What’s your advice for people who want to get into the e-learning field?

“Do a free trial of the software and take full advantage of any user guides and video tutorials to get up to speed. Download some templates and see how they’re built. Then jump into the forums here on E-Learning Heroes and ask questions. Maybe even try and answer a few. That’s how I learned so much in the early days—from reading the forum posts and trying to find the answers. There are some really smart people in the e-learning space—try and learn as much as you can from them.”
