This is a great article, Nicole. I have found that even general analysis is the most crucial step of the ADDIE model. You simply cannot create a good painting with a lousy line drawing.
When it comes to the Goldilocks approach to detail (which I love) and IDs arguing for hours over the details, I would say this really comes down to the audience. If the classroom participants are new to computers then the steps will differ from a curriculum intended for top executives.
