I believe training equates to education when the person being trained takes the information and applies it in real-life situations--an athlete can be trained to do something correctly and then when that person is no longer in the athlete-coach scenario, but still uses the information, they are now using what was learned during training.
I agree with this perspective. Training becomes education when the individual is able to apply what they’ve learned independently in real-life situations. Using your example, once an athlete takes techniques learned from a coach and applies them outside the training environment, that knowledge has moved beyond instruction and become true learning. The key difference is application and long-term understanding, not just repetition.
