Rise 360: Interactive Event Guide

We all know how useful Rise 360 is for building beautiful courses fast. But there’s so much more it’s capable of creating!

Take, for instance, event and conference guides. They’re a handy way to package up all the essential things an attendee needs to know—like the event schedule, session descriptions, a list of speakers, and even where to grab lunch. Paper versions are cheap to produce but bulky and a pain to carry around. Digital guides feel modern and streamlined but require custom coding or paying for a specialized conference tool. Or do they? It turns out you have another option—building it in Rise 360!

In this example, attendees have all the information they’ll need to explore a fictional conference. The experience makes an immediate impact with the combination of a customized theme and stylized graphics made with the free image-editing site Duotone by ShapeFactory. The user experience stays streamlined with the help of Rise 360 interactions, tucking away details like session descriptions and FAQ answers until they’re needed.     Very cool. Well done and thanks for sharing!

    There are so many great ways to utilize Rise. We even used it with my previous employer to convert our ILT/VILT facilitator guides to digital facilitator guides.

        Pilot the new guides with a small group of facilitators to gather feedback and create buy-in. Once you have a few "cheerleaders," it gets easier to scale it to more programs and facilitators. I was also working at a mobile cell phone provider, so there was a priority on going paperless where ever we could. However, we also included PDF versions of the Rise facilitator guides within the Rise version. That gave those who had a strong preference for pen and paper to have a printable version. It was a huge win for our instructional design teams because Rise is so much easier to maintain with updates than PPT or Word.

      Over the past few years, I've seen several very creative event guides and resources created with Rise 360 and/or Storyline 360. All of them were very different, but every approach seemed quite useful for event attendees.

      It's always so fun to find ways to use these apps for more than just e-learning!

      You can absolutely share a project like this outside an LMS. In fact, it's how I created the "Explore this project" preview linked to in the article. All you have to do is export your finished event guide for web, host it on a web server (which is a lot easier than it sounds), and then share the weblink to it with your attendees.

      A nice plus: once you have your web server all set, publishing a Rise 360 or Storyline course on it takes just a few minutes!

      How could I NOT include a raccoon reference in an event guide for a fake conference held in Toronto?! Gotta make sure our unofficial city mascot is represented!

    I stumbled onto this while looking for ideas to increase interactivity in webinars. This is such a fantastic design and way for conference attendees to have all the info in an accessible manner - thank your for sharing it! This is giving me some ideas for upcoming company events.

    After publishing the Rise 360 file to the web, could it be shared as part of a welcome email once someone registers, or does it have to be housed on a website?

      To share the interactive version of an event guide like this with attendees, you will need to host the course file on a web server or LMS. Then you'd just include a link to it in the welcome email. On the plus side, this is how a lot of conferences share access to their event apps, so your attendees would likely be familiar with the approach.

      That said, Rise 360 does export to PDF. The end results aren't interactive, but it is a useful solution if you want a version of the event guide you can directly attach to an email.

      Almost all of the work for stylizing the photos was done by a free image-editing site: Duotone by ShapeFactory: https://duotone.shapefactory.co/?f=10c5f8&t=6736dd&q=_

      All I had to do was pick the two main colors for the image, and it did the duotone conversion for me. It's a delightfully helpful site that does one thing really well.
