Hey all! Another first-time challenge participant here! For some background, my kids just started preschool and I was handed a 30-page spiral-bound parent handbook at the same meeting where I was supposed to sign a paper saying I had already read/reviewed the handbook. I think the assumption was that even if they had provided the handbook before that meeting, no one would read it anyway. While the first week of school was relatively free of hiccups, I think a tool like a handbook e-course would likely mitigate frustration for parents and teachers alike, so this was the inspiration for my template. I used the Lego theme because, to a toddler/preschool, Lego are a learning tool and it's also fun. (Plus, I just scored an entire 30-gallon tub of second-hand Duplo blocks for $25, so I've got Duplo on the brain.)
A couple notes/lessons learned:
- The only sections that are functional are Car Line, Lunches & Snacks, and Uniforms.
- The Lego brick border spacing is off, but I wanted to post before the end of the day and I was running out of kid-free time. I also should have created flat .jpg images rather than grouping the boxes together. I was trying to save time, but it ended up costing me more time in the long run because my computer struggled with each bar being a 60-block group.
- Using "typical" Lego colors seemed like a good idea until I had stared at it for a few hours. It's definitely too "electric" and I would use a more muted palette if I were to do it over.
- DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that the bumps on the Lego (and Duplo) bricks are called studs? :D I hope you enjoy my first challenge attempt and I'm excited to read the feedback!
