Branching Scenarios in E-Learning #497: Challenge | Recap

Branching scenarios are one of the best ways to make learning more personal and engaging. Instead of giving everyone the exact same content, you let learners jump into realistic situations, make their own decisions, and experience how those decisions affect the outcome.

They’re also great when you have learners with different roles or different levels of knowledge. Each learner can follow the path that fits them best, which makes the whole course more relevant and effective. And letting learners make their own choices is what this week’s challenge is all about!

🏆 Challenge of the Week

This week, your challenge is to share an example of a branching scenario. It can be as simple as a multiple-choice quiz or as advanced as an adaptive branching experience. The choice is yours.

And remember, if you get stuck or have any questions along the way, just drop a note in the comments.

✨ Share Your E-Learning Work

  • Social media: Please share your examples on LinkedIn, mentioning either David or Articulate, and include the tag #ElearningChallenge. This makes it easier for me to find your examples and helps you connect with other e-learning designers.

🙌 Last Week’s Challenge

Before you branch into this week’s challenge, check out some creative examples of how course designers use zooming techniques to help learners explore the details hidden in larger images.

Are you ready for an Expedition to Ancient Egypt?

You will travel back in time to ancient Egypt, face challenges, and take part in solving them—each solution leading to a different scenario.

You will choose between three eras: the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom.

I realize after a while that I've left your demo open and the sweet music continues. Cool.

  • Hi everyone!

This is my first challenge entry, and I’m still learning Articulate Storyline. I’d love any advice for a newbie in instructional design. I struggled with the “submit” button and ensuring the name field isn’t blank, so used my own. Creating appealing visuals is an area I would love to improve as well.

Thanks so much for your advice and feedback. I’ve watched many Articulate trainings and can get lost for hours working on it. It's so much fun for me! 😊

Welcome Elisabeth. It's always hard to find the right sidekick. You seem to know when to add a good dose of humor to your cooking. I like that.

Thank you! I'm a huge fan of your work! You are ultra talented!

  • Hi guys! We’re here to show you our ELH #497, developed by our eLearning Specialist, Nico Boiton.

We decided to do a branching scenario for the retail industry, choosing the topic of customer service.

We used Rise and Deep Seek, and the result was a simple and fun course that helps people visualize how branching scenarios may look in different formats or blocks inside of Rise.

Let us know what you think of it. Any comments or suggestions are well appreciated!

  • The problem with a branching scenario in a challenge, David,  is that you have (at least) double the work from the first branch, and that it can quickly become exponential. And spend a whole week making a demo. And go crazy.😀

  • Love the engagement with the background transparent image.  Great attention to ADA needs.  Can this be downloaded?

    Hi E-Learning Heroes!
My team and I built this gamification piece for reinforcement within our leadership learning path. After learning key concepts, they take this pirate-themed game to test their knowledge. Depending on their skill level, they can choose 1 of two different paths. Also, depending on the answers they select, they will either 'sink or swim'. There is quite a bit of branching here. Curious to hear what you think! Please review it here: Captain Sailsman's Treasure Hunt: Navigating Leadership | Review 360 ☠️

  • I'm a little late to this party but here is a "Find your spirit animal" quiz that I created. I love the image AI assistant in storyline, all the images in this interaction are built using the 3D animation setting. The branching is achieved using number variables.
