It's always a good idea to get context before giving advice. This includes understanding the designer's background, skill set, project goals, and time committed to building the example.
Each week we have a good mix of first-time users to career designers. Some people self-impose a time commitment of 30-60 minutes for their entries while others will spend 14+ hours on an example. There's no reasonable way to apply the same design standards to each project.
There's a lot more risk in showing one's work than criticizing those who do. If you see a project you like or don't like, try getting a little info from the designer on their goals for the challenge. It's possible their goals may not always be the same as yours. But it makes a great starting point for learning from one another.
