The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali

When I saw this challenge the first thing I asked myself was "What is something interesting enough to label?" I was inspired by Carrie Gauthier who said a couple challenges back that she likes Dali (vs. Picasso) and Alexander Salas who used video in his markers demo to kick us off. So here's my tribute to Carrie, Alexander and Dali--the video I embedded is kind of hilarious as it alludes to how this painting is perfect for an album cover or college dorm room. Dali would be amused, I'm sure. :)

- JodiSansone5 years agoCommunity MemberBy the way, to comment on my own post, I attended this week's Storyline Training session on video by David Anderson and Elizabeth Pawlicki--they reminded us about embedding video code into a story, and that was super helpful. I learned 6 new things this week (that I had forgotten) on including audio and video in Storyline. It's worth it to log in to these sessions even if you are very experienced. :)
- PreethiR-45f9fe5 years agoCommunity MemberI liked the 'clear markers' & 'show markers' idea. It will help if the learner wants to take in the entire image without the markers inbetween. Great idea Jodi!
- EstherMatthews5 years agoCommunity MemberI thought this was beautifully designed and I learned a lot. Also, I liked how you included the the 'clear markers' option - I'll be sure to use that in the future!
- JodiSansone5 years agoCommunity MemberThank you Preethi and Esther--I added that option to remove the markers because it bothered me to put markers on a masterpiece...but Dali had a playful sense so maybe he wouldn't mind so much. Picasso and Velasquez would not approve! :)
- KOsunero5 years agoCommunity MemberWhile the MoMA analysis really dug deep into what the painting was about, your demo made that content so more approachable by providing bite-size pieces of information next to each aspect of the painting. This was a great idea for this challenge!
- AndrzejJaboski-5 years agoCommunity MemberI agree with Preethi and Esther, the 'Clear markers' feature for the win!
- KarlisSprogis-d5 years agoCommunity MemberI like the feeling that the music gives to the example :) And I agree about the little chunks of information - it's always easier for me to remember some facts if the information is divided into small parts. I really enjoy your art challenges, so thank you, Jodi!
- SunetSullivan-75 years agoCommunity MemberI am loving this art theme and really enjoyed the experience of reviewing Dali's art.
- CarrieGauthier-5 years agoCommunity MemberThis is such a great example! I'm so glad you found inspiration in Dali! I was always a fan but when I went to the Dali Museum in St. Pete, FL I was truly in awe of his work.
It's so interesting, the meaning an detail he put into each piece. I think the way you've displayed that information here is fantastic, and makes it really clear. If you want to go down a rabbit hole of Dali's brain, I suggest checking out The Hallucinogenic Toreador, it was my favorite and had so much too it (including hidden pictures!).- JodiSansone5 years agoCommunity MemberThank you for recommending that painting. I would love to see it in person!
- alexjinca5 years agoCommunity MemberI love how you incorporated the dark themed articulate player into this example, it works really well, and lets the content pop. Where can I find these Storyline Training Sessions? I agree, I've been through some articulate tutorials lately and a lot of it had to do with reminding me to use it to its full potential and also some great tips and tricks that makes your life easier :) and gives you an AHA moment of 'I've been doing it all wrong ..., foolish me!'

Hi Alex, here is the link to the training page. These are one hour sessions by the Articulate Team and they cover a variety of topics. I have been using Storyline since 2016 and I still attend because I always learn 3 or 4 new things. I have been using Rise a lot during the pandemic to crank things out for clients and I re-learned about using Storyline blocks again. I was having issues and the session helped me figure out what I could do better.
- VeronicaBudnika5 years agoSuper HeroAh Jodi, one of my favourite artists. This is great and I loved the option to clear the markers and bring them back again so we could see the painting in all its glory, well done!
