This is normal behaviour. You just need to get familiar with how to control the screen reader. You will very rarely use the tab key. There are a handful of keys I use for JAWS. I usually trigger it to read all ( insert + down arrow) and then hit escape when I want it to stop in a location. I use other shortcuts to jump to specific elements such as headings, links etc.

Thanks SamHill​ for the quick reply - I was familiar with Deque resources...but the hit escape part I missed. I will check it again.
