Can I Use Format Painter to Apply Shape Size, Font Size, and Font Style to All States?

Aug 31, 2021

I occasionally have a project where I need to make a change late in the game of the size, font style, or font color of tabs, text boxes, buttons, etc.  By changing the normal state of the object/shape itself, the edits (or at least some of the edits) often spill over to some of the states, sometimes have no effect on any of the other states, and in very rare cases apply across all states.  I'm therefore left to use the format painter to take care of the remaining changes.

The format painter only applies the color of the box across all states.  When I have 3, 4, 5, or more different states, I'm suddenly increasing my workload by 3, 4, or 5 times what it otherwise would be because for each state I need to reset it and use the format painter for each one... for every text box, tab, button, or whatever it is that is affected.  While I can change the size of several objects at once by selecting them all and editing their height and width, it doesn't change the states.  Often I'll scrap the interactive element entirely, fix it on one slide, and re-copy/paste the updated version to all slides, but then I need to update the wording for each new slide and re-link the triggers, so even though I can preserve the colors, fonts, and sizes across all of the states, that process is not much better.

What am I doing wrong?
