I need to overlay 2 images, the top one with overlay mode. I noticed this isn't working as it should. The top image displays as a black rectangle. Any solution for this?
I can completely corroborate this, image color modes do not work in Storyline 2 I'm afraid. Anytime you set an image to a color mode other than normal, it appears completely black.
Thanks for sharing your example as well as your file for us to take a peek at. If you right-click on the image to format, then adjust the transparency - I do believe it's working as you wish.
Hi Leslie, blend mode should work without applying transparency. There are lot of softwares that make use of this layers color combinations (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Powerpoint) and it is also a supported CSS feature. When you overlap two or more layer, the blend mode set on the upper layer affect the result of the global image where the layers overlaps. Colors are combined using different algorithms. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blend_modes
In Storyline 2 the blend modes, other than "normal", are not working as they should.
Thanks for the explanation. I do not use these features very often. Would you be able to share an example so that we can get this reported and our QA Team can start working on this? You can share here.
I have had the same issue, ever since I started using Storyline 2 years ago. The blend mode has never worked, just displaying the black rectangle Patrick and Zio mention, so much so that I have never bothered to check till now if this had been fixed.
I shared the examples and statements from this thread with our QA Team to look further into Diarmaid and Brett. Now that you've responded, you should be subscribed to any applicable updates posted in this thread. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks Leslie. Blend modes can be really useful when they work properly, e.g., highlighting something onscreen cleanly without obscuring it with a semi-transparent shape as I see so often.
Right - I think that's what Zio and Patrick were trying to emphasize to me and thankfully they were patient enough to explain as obviously this is not something I work with much :) I'm going to add your thoughts for the team as well Brett and I appreciate your feedback.
Hey Matthew - I do not have an update to provide on this issue at this time. We are trying to do a better job at tracking user impact though, so I will add this for our QA Team and add to our agenda.
Hi Lesie - Just checking in to see if there are any updates? For those of us who design layouts for our eLearning courses in other programs, such as Adobe Photoshop or Indesign, the lack of blend modes significantly limits design choices.
Thanks for checking in on this! I don't have any updates yet, but it's always helpful to hear more about how this would help with your course design. Also, in case you're curious here's how we manage the Feature process.

Hi, Zio -- Would it be possible for you to share a screenshot of what you are seeing or possibly your file so that we can take a closer look for you?

Hi, Patrick -- Thank you for your response! You would also be welcome to share your file or a screenshot if you'd like us to take a closer look. :)
Okay, I'll bite. Bear in mind that the black-out occurs for any color mode and not just Overlay which was just used for the example.

Transparency hasn't anything to do with color mode in that example.
see example: expected multiply blend mode versus result in Storyline 2

Leslie, if you look at the samples I posted 5 days ago, you will see the issue directly in play.
Thanks for sharing. I will share this with our QA Team to look into further.

Evidently not.
I concur. Blend modes have never worked properly for me in SL2. I have always had to go into Photoshop to get the results desired.

Hi Leslie, are there any updates on this issue? I'm having the same problem with image blend modes.
Hi Tom!
I do not have an update to provide at this time as this is still in the hands of our QA Team. This thread is attached for update when applicable.
Hi Leslie - Have there been any updates on this issue? We'd like to use blend modes if they are functioning properly. Thx!

Ran into this issue today, really disheartening to see its been "known" for more than 3 years and is still an issue. :/
Yeah, classic storyline. Useless. They'll fix it in a new version and make you pay for it.
