Create an Encyclopedia

Apr 20, 2021

Hi all.

I've been asked by a not-for-profit organization to help them create an online encyclopedia of successful scientist heroes in smaller countries, basically. They have some data, but it's not really compiled in any way. Do you think Storyline might be a good way to do this or is there perhaps some other app that can be used to create such a wiki-style project.

I'm a long time user of Storyline but never had this kind of request before. I would really appreciate any and all comments or feedback about this!

I hope this question is not inappropriate for this site.

Thanks so much,

Daniel.

The question is absolutely appropriate.

I doubt that SL is a good medium for what it sounds like you want. I imagine a good sized body of information with a need to access specific parts at different times, and maybe in different ways, and SL is best at working with a specific pre-set smaller body of information.

That said, if all they want is to display a short bio of a specific individual from a table of contents, you could probably do that. I'm thinking a page for each letter. Then that link leads to a page full of people starting with that letter, then those links lead to the final bio slide. And the same structure per country. It doesn't really start to get hard until they want to sort or see all the physicists, or something similar.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Yes i would definitely need to have multiple cross-referencing, by
scientist name, by field of study, say biology, chemistry, physics etc and
by country....at least those three. I've been trolling the internet for
days now but not really able to find anything that I can use to do the job.
There are a scant few wiki products out there, but they're really more for
the blogging set, it seems. There's tons of stuff for business database
management, of course.

Well, thanks anyway.

Regards.
