Hello all!
If you're still subscribed to this discussion, I wanted to share that the feature mentioned has been released! In Storyline 360 (Build 3.85.31840.0), you can now instantly update the formatting of all slide notes in your project.
From here, all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!
If you run into any issues, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Support team in a support case.

Hi Claudine -
There isn't an authoring environment global setting for the notes font / size. However, you can export to a Word document using the translation feature. Then using Word's search features, find a specific font / size and set a new font size to the selection. Then use the translation feature to re-import the file.
All text formatting done to the translation file should come right back into your storyline source document.
Hi Steve,
That's a good suggestion. I have a follow-up. Assuming we just want to change the notes font, in order to quickly change only the Notes font in the Word document, we could "Find Articulate 9" and "Replace with Arial12" (or whatever our target typeface/size was). Yes?
Not sure that there's a way JUST to target the Notes font in the Word output, unless it was in a font that was different to the rest.
If that were the case you can use Word > Replace > Format commands.
Right, that's what I was getting at too, Bruce. Since by default, Notes is Articulate 9, and assuming you're not using it elsehwere.
Find, Articulate, 9pt: Replace with (e.g.,) Arial 12 pt
Hi Rebecca -
Yes, that's the assumption I was under. The font is so small and off-sized that the chances are small that it would appear elsewhere.
I was looking for a way to do this, also. I tried this, but the Find / Replace didn't work, even within the Word doc. Did anyone try this and have any luck with it?
The Notes are so tiny, it's crazy hard to read them.
Hi LaRue,
As far as I know there isn't any way to change the font size globally, although you can update the notes from Storyline as described here.
Hi, Ashley, thanks for the reply, but it looks like this is about changing the appearance of the Notes in the player.
I thought this thread was about changing the notes in the Storyline interface. Above, the instructions say to use the translations export / import feature, which does change the font when imported back in. I was hoping someone had found another simpler way to do it from within Storyline!
It's odd, because before you start typing in the Notes field, the placeholder "Click here to add notes" font size looks like about 12 pts... but as soon as you start typing, it changes to only 9 pts. (see attached screenshot). It's pretty time intensive to go through and change each one but it's really hard to see them, and I often take clients through a screen share to go through reviews, and they can't ever read the notes. So, maybe I need to submit a feature request to keep the default to 12 pts OR allow it to be changed globally or in the defaults preferences.
Thanks again!
Ahh thanks LaRue for the clarification. There isn't a master way to change it - but I believe the default is font size 9. So it sounds like a feature request is in order. :)
Odd that this is still not possible to do globally. It's been in the forums for 3 years now, and I imagine there have been quite a few feature requests. Really annoying having to go into 150 slides individually to make sure the font is what you want in the notes.
I create my notes in my word processor. When I paste with right-click Source Formatting, they keep the word processor formatting, and it is a lot easier to create, proof and change them.
Yes, when creating from scratch, it would help to do that. Unfortunately, I'm working with an imported PowerPoint. If only had had known the slide notes were in various different formats, I would have corrected them in PowerPoint prior to the import.
I'm stuck now since I've changed quite a few things since importing. Even the ability to use the Format Painter would make things easier, but it is not available for notes.
Submit that feature request. Maybe they'll have time to spend on it now.
Thanks Josh and Walt for sharing those here, and in case you need it please feel free to submit the feature requests here.
Is there any way to get an update??? Seems like this is still an issue, but it's hard to tell just by searching the forum. Has this feature request been coded and released?
Thanks.
Hi Nancy,
This is still in a feature request state, and we don't share updates or time frames in regards to if or when a particular feature will be included. You can follow along with our blog to stay up to date on the latest developments with Articulate.
Oh well.
Sorry Nancy - and just an FYI replying via email includes your signature here, so you're welcome to edit the post and remove that information.
I've submitted this feature request too...awhile back. But it still seems like something that is not on the roadmap. Can anyone confirm if it's even on the list? It's a very basic functionality. And one that is really needed. We all work with various SMEs and we're copying and pasting Notes in or importing from multiple PPT sources, etc.
A quick way to standardize the Notes font at production would be an immense help. In PPT, you can quickly view a "Notes" Master...maybe SL2 could enable something like that? Or even just a "Notes" View...where you could do a Select All and set the Font characteristics. Or even if you could set the Notes font in the Player characteristics - and have it standardize across the entire course.
Having to Export, Find/Replace, and Reimport is really time consuming (although arguably easier than manually touching all the frames again).
Hi Heather,
We're unable to share information in regards to a product road map, so I don't have any information to share on that set up. You mentioned submitting a feature request, and that is appreciated as our team will be able to take a look and determine where it fits in terms of our overall scope of features, new versions, releases, etc.
Still seems odd that this is still an issue, but this work around was super helpful! Wish I would have come across it years ago!
There is no way this is on the road map... if it was, it would have been handled years ago... instead we get 360. Not worth the trade IMHO.
Nancy, is there a way to globally change text in 360?!
sorry, I don't know... I was just being catty because the amount of development that went into 360 = SL2 is the red-headed stepchild
Shucks. Just bought 360 and thought maybe you were alluding that it was part of the 360 features. :)
Hi Nadia,
It's not on the roadmap yet, but the more we hear from users the more information that gives us. You can always share your with us through a feature request or here in the forums. In case you're wondering, here's how we manage all of the ideas we receive!
