Having trouble with the state of items not working as intended with triggers.

I'm new to Storyline and hoping someone can give me a helping hand with something I'm stuck on. I'm having trouble getting the state of items not working as intended with triggers. I have this carousel effect going on, when you click the left or right blue buttons it will advance the carousel to the left and right.
What I'm having difficulty with is changing the state of these blue buttons. Ideally what I would like to happen is at the start I would like the left/back button to be hidden, once you start to move the slider the left/back button appears. Once the last slide in the carousel is reach the right/forward button would be hidden, so you can't continue to advance any further. Also anywhere between the start and ending slides you should have both buttons visible.

The first problem is that the covers are between the icons and the text slider. (I wish you had named them Position 1, or Text1, rather than slider1. It made Julie [and me when I read your post] think you were moving from slide to slide.) That keeps the icons from interacting with the slider, so the triggers don't work. Change the triggers to reference the cover intersecting with the slider, and it works.
The other problem is that the white part of the icon is blank, so it doesn't catch the mouse click. That's unfortunate, because most people will click the white part. To fix it, I edited the state of the icons, and pasted a white triangle on them.
