Help Needed with Getting Buttons to Work as Intended

Dec 20, 2022

Hi Community.

I really need some support.  No matter what I tried, I can't get the interactions in Storyline to work the way I intended.   I have been at this for days and I am frustrated beyond frustrated!

Situation- I want users to visit all buttons (the essential skills) before selected the next button to go to the next slide.

I set the buttons for each skill to be normal (colored white), highlight pink when hovered, and then darken gray when visited.  That works fine.

Problem- The buttons are visited, but the "Next Button" won't change from disabled to normal to proceed to the next slide after ALL buttons for essential skills are visited.

What am I doing wrong?  How can I get this to work?  Please HELP!

Feel free to preview my slides to help me troubleshoot.  Once you try it, I am sure you will understand and maybe see what I am doing wrong.

Hello, I was able to generate an example that reflect what you are attempting to do at your end after studying your course. The first time I visited that layer, I took 5 variables and set them up to change when I clicked the close icon. This worked perfectly for me, and after visiting all the buttons, the next button went from being disabled to being active, and I was able to move on to the next slide.

Please see the attached sample file and let me know if my assistance is still required.

Hi Sandeep.

I am truly grateful for your help.  I definitely see the need for creating the variables.  This is still a little new to me.  I even watched more of the videos to help me understand better.  However, I am still confused.

I wanted all the buttons selected before the next button was disabled.

At this point, I click two of the buttons, and the next button changes to normal.  I thought it would change after all buttons were clicked.  Nore sure why this is happening.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that. Would you mind sharing the file that you've been working on so that I can take a look and give it a try?

You stated before that the Next button should only be active/normal when all the buttons for the essential skills buttons are visited. Am I correct? But in your recent post, you mentioned that I wanted all the buttons selected before the next button was disabled.

Could you please reiterate what you are specifically hoping to accomplish here?

Thank you..

Walt Hamilton

Kimberly,

When I preview Sandeep's story, it works as you intended; I have to click all five button (without regard to order) before the Next button changes to Normal, or I can advance. I'm not sure why you are having problems. Try downloading it again.

Sandeep,

Disabled is a typing error. It should be enabled.

Hi Sandeep.

I attached the file again.  Please look at everything and let me know what I did incorrectly.  I select one or two buttons and the next button is enabled.  Yet I want all buttons visited before the next button IS enabled.

Unfortunately, I was at this all day again trying to get it to work, so my brain ended up foggy.  Yet, with your help, I got the next button to work!  That is progress.

So yes, Walt was right, I want all buttons visited (they will turn grey) before the next button also changes from dark grey to blue color or is enabled.

Yet, with much trying, I did not get that result.

Hi Walt.

Here is my file to review.  I closed the program and reloaded it several times.

I select one or two buttons and the next button is enabled.  Yet I want all buttons visited before the next button IS enabled.

I am a newbie to Articulate trying very hard to piece it all together:) Sorry if I am not getting it.  Been at this for several days, so I am really trying.

Kimberly,

Even if you don't choose any option, the Next button will change color and become active after a few seconds. That makes me think there may be a trigger somewhere, or it may be something tied to the end of the timeline. For example, an animation will change the state of an object when it runs. It's really hard to tell. If you will attach your .story file here, we can look into it, and see what the problem is.
