Insert SharePoint Site in Web Object

Nov 22, 2023

Hi all! I'm wondering if anyone has had any success inserting a SharePoint site into a web object? I'm trying to create an activity where the learner needs to look up information on their company's SharePoint site and then record in the course what they find.

I've tried two different sites to see if this works. The first one I used my client's site and when I click "Test Link...", I get the error, "The web address you entered cannot be displayed in a frame. In order to function properly, this web object must be set to open in new browser window." I really don't want to set it up to open in a different window because it would make the activity difficult to have to go back and forth between screens, plus they make have pop-up blockers and not recognize that it's trying to open a new window.

The second site I tested was a personal SharePoint site. It works when I click "Test Link..." but then when I publish it, it shows an error on the page that says it couldn't log in. Why does it not ask for log-in info like it does in a normal browser?

I recognize this is an issue outside of SL, so just wondering if anyone's found a way to do something similar.

Thanks!

Hi Christina,

Happy to chime in!

I believe SharePoint, being a Microsoft product, doesn't allow adding of its contents through iFrames by default. Here's an official article from Microsoft on embedding SharePoint content using iframes, which is essentially what a Web Object is:

Consider hosting your content on a different platform such as Amazon S3 or your own web server if you need to embed them in your course as web objects.
