I want to create an interaction where a learner moves sliders up and down, and each one affects another.... i.e. if profit slider goes up, loss slider goes down, if costs go up, wages go down and so does morale, but if morale goes up, so does productivity and so on....
It feels too complex to build in Storyline with sliders and variables.
Yes, building inter-dependent sliders may potentially require quite a few triggers, but it can easily be done. It's more "manual labor", rather than "rocket science".

When sliders were first introduced in SL2, I built some examples. The first one (Audio Mixer) shows inter-dependent sliders.
