Item names disappeared on the timeline and no longer show up in publish or preview

Nov 09, 2022

I'm building an infographic that has a number, an icon and some text for 11 steps. I downloaded the numbers from the Storyline icons, and renamed them with the number to help keep track of everything, then I grouped each line to be able to move them around. This is what it is supposed to look like.

This is how it shows when I preview it, and it does the same thing when I publish it to Review 360.

The four groups that are missing have lost the number name in the timeline, and when I grouped them, the group doesn't have a name.

I did all of these in the exact same way and am befuddled as to what went wrong. Any suggestions? I've attached the Storyline file if it helps to see anything.

And yes, I'm working locally, though this file syncs to Dropbox, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with this.

Hi Jurgen.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I guess I could do that. I don't have this in layers, though I suppose I could make this interactive and use it like a quiz. I'm just not sure they will remember enough at this point which is why I did the whole thing on one layer. I wanted them to see the pattern of the back and forth between the two screens.

There wasn't an import. I downloaded each of the numbers by Insert>Icons and searching for the number. Then I made them pink, and smaller, and renamed them by their number instead of Icon #whichever I downloaded their order in. It gets so confusing if you don't name them. I downloaded the icons for browser, and command prompt, then I typed the text for each.

But I did that for all the numbers which is why I'm so puzzled. I suppose I can redownload those four numbers and try again but I'm hoping to avoid whatever went wrong so I need to know what might have caused this.

Update: I was able to fix it, kind of. It's showing now in Preview and Publish, which I guess is fine but it's still doing weird things.

I'd attach this to the support ticket but I can't find it.

I redownloaded the problem numbers' icons, renamed, resized and replaced them. Then I ungrouped the group they were in, deleted the problem number, put the new number in the group and regrouped. It created new groups starting at Group 12, which I renamed to the correct numbers. BUT! It didn't keep the new number on the timeline on the new ones, except 11. Puzzling, for sure. This didn't impact the publishing, so it's not a big deal but definitely quirky, for sure.

I don't know if this is a factor - it shouldn't be, but when I've been saving I get a notification that I can't save because it's being used elsewhere and might have been modified by another user. I'm working using the client's login here, have my own personal account, and have used a login for a college I did work for as well, all on this laptop. Maybe there's a cookie or something that's causing this confusion.
