Opening an course on storyline?

Sep 29, 2021

Hi there everyone,

I hope you can help me with my problem. I am new to articulate and SCORM, so please be patient if I am failing to grasp the basics... :)
So, I received what is supposed to be a e-learning course on a DVD. The DVD is composed by several folders, among which one that says "Articulate source". Inside this folder there is a .zip folder and inside this a .story file.

Other folders includes "Graphics" (.zip files) as well as .pdf and .docx document.

I need to see this course somehow (and possibly to take it), and I was told I could use articulate somehow. Can you help me in doing that? Is uploading the .story file enough? Shall I upload the SCORM package? If yes, which on these folders are actually part of it?
Thanks for your help and understanding!

Hello Lorenzo, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details of the files. The .story file is not included in the published output, such as the SCORM .zip file, but it sounds like someone packaged the output and the project together for you.

To open the project Storyline, you can use the .story file.

Dear Leslie,

thanks so much for your insight.

I was indeed able to open it with storyline. Then, I tried and published it as a video. Everything seems to work (slides, animations, transitions) except the sound... There is no voice over (as it should be). Do you have any clue of why?

thanks again!

Thanks for the update, Lorenzo. I'm glad that you were able to get the project opened.

Is the audio present in the project file and when previewing?

I'd like you to share your project file with our support engineers to investigate what's happening with your permission. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.

Dear Leslie,

thanks so much for your support. I actually restarted the course and it works now.
However, I still have a question. Is there a way to maintain all features of the course even when it is published as a video? I mean like interactive elements, texts that appear only when clicked upon, etc.

Thanks again!

Hi Lorenzo,

Since videos aren’t interactive, you’ll need to build your Storyline course with this in mind if you plan to publish to video. You can’t use triggers that require learners to click, hover, drag, type, or interact with the content in any way. Interactive triggers simply won’t work when publishing a course to a video file.
