PlayAudio Trigger not working

Apr 08, 2021

Hello Heroes,

Following instructions from another thread, I added a PlayAudio trigger so that screen reader users can turn off course narration. The trigger defaults to False and is turned off when the screen reader users click Turn off Narration text box (trigger is Set PlayAudio value to True when the user clicks Textbox 3). That's on the main title page. The PlayAudio trigger is set to False on all other slides that contain narration (trigger is Play Audio Audio 1 when PlayAudio changes if PlayAudio = False). It seemed to be working previously but now that I've made some non-audio updates to the course and attempted to test it again in Preview mode, the audio isn't playing at all.

Also, I noticed in the timeline that all the audio now shows as "Recording". The only way I can get the audio to play is to open the individual audio file as if I want to edit it.

Any help is appreciated!

Hello Geralyn!

It sounds like the Play Audio trigger was working as expected, but updates to the course affected this trigger. We're happy to help! I'm not sure I fully understand the course setup and what might be getting in the way of this trigger. Would you mind sharing your project with us? You can upload it privately in a support case. We'll delete it after troubleshooting.

To close the loop and in case anyone else runs into this issue - below is the information from Lianne along with a screenshot showing what I had and what it should be in order to get the PlayAudio trigger to work properly whether using a screen reader or not.

The "When" property of the trigger was the issue. (See first screen shot)

Currently, what this trigger does is to check if the value of the PlayAudio variable changes while the user is still on the slide and if it does, it will play the audio only if the PlayAudio variable's value is False. The reason why this trigger won't work is that there are no other triggers that will change the value of the PlayAudio variable on the same slide.

To fix - adjust these triggers so that they will execute when the timeline starts instead. (See second screen shot)

Appreciate the quick response from the Articulate team!
