Quiz - free menu navigation, multiple tries, but with resume quiz on each quiz access .... It this even possible?

May 18, 2021

We have a critical situation where a client wants both free navigation with the menu, from the Quiz, but also saving all the learners tries and resume answers for unfinished tries.

It is even possible?

We are using Articulate Storyline 360.

Situation:

There is content that the learner needs to go through. It can only go further after all the content is revealed.
In the end, there is a quiz that can be taken two times. The passing score is 80%.
On the fail layer we have two buttons: Restart course and Restart quiz, where we reset the quiz results.

The client wants the learner to be able to click away (in the menu) and come back to the quiz without losing the current answers (so, we cannot reset the result on the Start quiz slide). Considering this, we also have a variable that quantifies the number of accounts that increases by one when the learner arrives on the results slide.

Problem:
The client wants to have the Start quiz slide shown in the menu. The problem appears when the learner clicks on the Start quiz slide in the menu. This behaviour makes the results not be reset. By the time it gets through to arrive at the results slide and click on one of the buttons that resets the results, the variable quantifies that it got to the result slide two times, therefore there are no more attempts available.

It is a strange behaviour and we do not know how to handle all thous alternative scenarios.

Hello Elena and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you need to create in your project.

Without seeing the project, I would recommend:

  • Moving your attempt variable to the retry button on your result slide.
    • This will prevent the count from adjusting when the user returns to the result slide.
  • Reset your quiz results from the retry button as well.
