Removing or Hiding the Previous/Next Buttons?

Jun 27, 2012

Hi There! I'm using Storyline to put together a (really cool) museum-style interaction that will play on a touch screen computer at a historical site! I'd like to essentially make the interaction play full screen at 1280X720, so I've gone in and set all of the player elements as transparent.  Here's my question: I have gotten rid of everything but the previous and next buttons- how do I turn these off?

Thanks!

Hi Dena, and welcome to Heroes!

What we were able to find within Ronny's file was one slide had the slide properties to "Custom" and the Previous button was checked on there. That will override the main player settings, so you'll want to check all your slides to ensure that you have the player settings to default and that will pick up whatever you've set on the Player templates. If you're still having difficulty after checking those settings, please feel free to share your .story file for us to look at here or share it with us privately.

Hi,

I tried what Dena said "Thank you for your help! I hadn't disabled the Submit button on the individual questions in the question bank and that was turning on the Prev/Next buttons!" which is to replace the default SUBMIT button with the custom made SUBMIT button.

I had turn off the "previous" and "submit" at the setting at base layer. But the PREV button still comes out after I interact with all the question and came back to review it. The most obvious one is the first question as it is the first slide.

I have attached a dummy storyline for your review.

Please help urgent!

Agreed. This is a pain.

If a user completes the course, by previously pressing Next/Submit (whatever you may have setup as a trigger) and then returns to the same screen and exits - without pressing the trigger button - their completinon flag for this screen will be erased.

Not cool if you are using it, like I am as a trigger to take you to the final screen in a course and the result is going to an LMS.

Has this been resolved yet?

Cheers

Hi Ashley,

I am facing a similar problem. My course has customized Previous/Next buttons. We have added a customized Submit button for the assessment pages. The Result page has only a Retry Assessment button.

When I try to access the Assessment page by navigating from the Menu, I am unable to click/select the answer options onscreen. The Previous/Next buttons (default ones from Storyline) also appear in UI.

For the Slide Properties, I have selected "Reset to initial state".

This issue does not occur when i click the Retry Assessment button. It also works fine when I go through the course for the first time.

Please help!

Hi Mukulika,

What version of Storyline are you using? The prev/next buttons will appear on a revisit to quiz question as described here. In regards to only seeing this behavior when using the menu to jump to the slides - I think we'd want to take a look at your .story file to see how this is behaving and anything else that may be impacting the behavior.

Hi Ashley,

I am using Storyline 2. I went through the link that you have shared earlier, the issue occuring in my Story file is slightly different as we are using customized navigation buttons and have disabled all the default buttons.

The issue occurs when we use the menu to access the quiz page after it has been visited at least once. Also, it works fine in the Preview mode. It is only in the published output the isssue is visible.

I am still puzzled as to what I am doing wrong here..

I have enclosed the Story file and the published output for your reference.

Hi Mukulika,

Thanks for sharing your file. I took a look during preview, and I do see the next/prev buttons reappear on a revisit to a quiz slide - which as I mentioned is expected based on the link I shared and that Storyline doesn't see your custom navigation and provides a way for users to navigate through the course. Since I don't see any additional information on your slides in regards to how you'd expect the user to navigate once again through the slides they've already visited, using the menu this looks again to be working as expected.

Hi everyone!
I have a similar issue with my project.

I am using custom Submit/Next button (I don't provide a Previous Option) on all my slides.
I have deactivated the Articulate Player buttons (Previous/Next/Submit) on ALL slides.
When reviewing results everything was working fine until I decided to use the Articulate Player seekbar on a few slides that have narration.

From that moment on, the Articulate Previous/Next button started showing up when I review results...

Can someone offer some advice on how to resolve this?

Thanks a lot!

Annie

Hi Annie!

When learners review a quiz (or revisit question slides they've already submitted), they'll see Articulate Storyline's built-in Prev and Next buttons in the lower right corner of the player—even if you've disabled them throughout your course. These navigation buttons are necessary for learners to review quiz slides.

If you'd like to have an option to disable the Prev and Next buttons during quiz review so you can use your own custom navigation buttons, please let us know. We value your feedback.

Hi Steve and the rest of the community,

could you de me a favour and look at my attached storyline file? I tried to rebuilt the approach, that Steve suggested with regards to custom navigation cause I'm having the same problems as many users described here. I am using the latest version of Storyline 2 and currently, I do not manage to let the bulit-in naviagtion disappear when using Steve's approach.

You will see two scenes within the storyline file:

Scene 1: An assessment with two questions in a question bank plus a results slide, from where the user can review the question.

Scene 2: A "normal" scene with two questions. Once the user has answered Question 2, he comes back to the overview and can have a lool at the questions again, when he clicks the corresponding links.

Many thanks in advance

René

Hi, Rene - I see that you directed your question to Steve, but as this thread is quite a bit older, it's possible that although Steve and the other participants are still active in the community, they may no longer be subscribed to this thread. HI

I am having an issue where my submit buttons have completely disappeared in the player, but only for two of my slides. I'm pretty confused as to why this would happen. Can anyone help with this? I'm uploading the storyline project here. I'm a beginner so please go easy on me! It's slide 1.8. I don't even know how to disable or enable the submit button, which I see many folks talking about here.
